6 Easiest CUNY and SUNY Schools To Get Into

I didn’t apply to a SUNY or CUNY for undergrad, so I didn’t know the 6 easiest CUNY and SUNY schools to get into. I should have–some of them are great schools and I lived in New York, so the tuition would’ve been lower. Dammit, younger me! Overall, I’m happy with my college choice, but I like to ponder the road not taken–and the debt not incurred. My personal battle with the Ghost of Christmas Past aside, CUNY and SUNYs are not cheap–they’re  just cheaper than other colleges.

But also, they’re super different. They are much more like cousins than siblings–but the good kind of cousin. The kind you get drunk with–on a campus green. The State University of New York (SUNY) and the City University of New York (CUNY) are the two public university systems in NY State. CUNY, is additionally funded by the City of New York. The State University of New York (SUNY) has 64 campuses across the entire state and The City University of New York (CUNY) has 23 campuses across all five boroughs. Both systems have universities, colleges, and community and technical colleges which offer high-quality education to its students.

When applying to grad school I didn’t make the same mistake of overlooking our fine ass local public colleges and universities.  I applied to and was accepted to a very cool CUNY that I didn’t even know existed until I did research. And by research, I don’t mean dating a CUNY instructor, which I was also doing at the time–though she was working in a different department at a different college and teaching philosophy while I was going to study art.  What I’m trying to say is no, I did NOT sleep my way into a CUNY acceptance, though the more I protest the more you’re starting to wonder, right? But I DID learn about these great public colleges–even though I ended up going a different way for grad school.

Especially if Governor Cuomo’s plan to eliminate tuition at CUNY and SUNY schools for qualified applicants is passed–why wouldn’t you apply? Also, all of the people I know who did go to SUNYs seems like they enjoyed a quintessential college experience. There were all-nighters, football rivalries, pranks, keggers, and brochure-ready groups laying on lawns.  The closer to Animal House the closer to perfection–right? If you are looking to get into either a SUNY or CUNY then you are going to have the highest possible chance of acceptance if you opt for the schools which made today’s list of 6 Easiest CUNY and SUNY Schools To Get Into. We took a good look at the statistics published by Startclass, and ranked each SUNY and CUNY schools regarding their acceptance rate. Also, we avoided the institutes that had fewer than one thousand applicants.

 

6. CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice

New York, New York

Total Students: 15,045

Number of Applicants: 13,884

Undergraduate Acceptance Rate: 37.1 %

This is the only liberal arts college that has a focus on forensics and criminal justice. Their mascot is the bloodhounds for obvious reasons.

 

5. CUNY City College

New York, New York

Total Students: 15,579

Number of Applicants: 21,050

Under graduate Acceptance Rate: 38.1 %

We are continuing our list of easiest CUNY and SUNY schools to get into with CCNY that is the oldest senior college and the flagship college in the CUNY system. It is also one of the shooting locations for the fictional Hudson University that appears in Law & Order and many an NYC-based crime drama.

 

4. CUNY Queens College

Named after civil rights leader Medgar Evers, this college is located in central Brooklyn in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. There are 4 schools within the college: Business, Professional and Community Development, Liberal Arts and Education, and Science, Health, and Technology. They also host many centers like The Male Development and Empowerment Center, The Center for Black Literature, and the DuBois Bunche Center for Public Policy.

Located on Staten Island this is one of the only colleges in which a ferry can play a large part of your commute. There is also a ferry shuttle from the ferry to the Willowbrook campus.
