In today's turbulent global economic landscape, having instant access to money, regardless of location or currency, is more crucial than ever. This electronic payment system aims to reduce the eurozone's reliance on US credit cards during periods of strained transatlantic ties.

Following six years of development, the ECB's digital currency has gained more attention since President Donald Trump took office, raising fears of weaponized tariffs, even against trade partners.

In addition, Tencent Financial Technology announced on May 27 that US PayPal users can now use WeChat Pay's QR-code network to make payments at businesses throughout China. According to the announcement, the service connects Tencent's cross-border payment platform TenPay Global to PayPal World.

On June 28, The Wall Street Journal reported that MP Materials Corp. (NYSE:MP) sued USA Rare Earth, alleging the company misappropriated proprietary grain boundary diffusion technology through former engineer Kevin Elkins. However, Kevin denies the allegations. On June 22, Reuters reported that ​​Lucid Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:LCID) will cut about 18% of its US workforce, and Chief Operating Officer Marc Winterhoff has left the company. On June 29, Bloomberg reported that Stellantis N.V. (NYSE:STLA) plans to begin selling a China-made Jeep in Europe by 2030. Dongfeng Motor is jointly producing the large SUV at its Wuhan plant. Jeep’s head of Europe, Fabio Catone, said the company expects to offer six Jeep models in Europe by the end of the decade, up from two now.

Bloomberg said the project grows the vehicle firm’s renewed partnership with Dongfeng under Chief Executive Officer Antonio Filos and reverses an earlier retreat from China. The report noted that the partners are also creating a venture allowing Dongfeng to build its own vehicles at a Stellantis factory in France.

On June 10, Reuters reported that XPeng Inc. (NYSE:XPEV) CEO He Xiaopeng will personally lead the company’s robotics business as the Chinese EV maker pushes toward mass production of its IRON humanoid robots by the end of 2026. Recycling sits at the intersection of two pressures: rising battery volumes and the need to secure critical minerals such as lithium, nickel and cobalt. IEA analysis has also highlighted improved hydrometallurgical recovery techniques for these battery materials, while Reuters noted in July 2026 that battery-metal markets remain sensitive to supply restrictions, policy shifts, and uneven EV demand. On June 15, Fitch Ratings affirmed Fortum’s BBB+ credit rating with a stable outlook, saying favorable Nordic power prices should help offset lower nuclear output. On July 1, Hydro said Slovalco reached an agreement with the Slovak government that could allow the restart of 75,000 tonnes of curtailed primary aluminum capacity. The Slovalco restart would therefore add industrial depth around a company already tied to battery recycling through Hydrovolt.
