7 Places to Visit in Hong Kong Before You Die

You wouldn’t think that there are that many places to visit in Hong Kong before you die considering the size of the island. But with so much history, it’s not hard to see why. You can even take a step out of Asia if you want to go back into colonial times. Despite its tiny size, don’t think that it is lacking in any way in terms of attractions offered. This island even offers other island escapes, incredible shopping, and some of the most fantastic views of a city that one can get.

There’s a gondola ride over the South China Sea with islands in the distance, some of the most photographed places in Hong Kong, temples, Buddhas and more. Culture is something you won’t be able to get away from. Be sure to get your tummy full of local and traditional cuisine so you are fueled up and ready to experience all the hustle and bustle this eccentric and exciting island offers.

If city life gets to you a bit, and you’re in need for a break, you don’t have to flee the country, just hop over to another world at Repulse Bay and take a load off. Beach bum and explore the attractions in the area, there’s no going wrong here. If shopping is what you want, shopping is what you will get. The malls and centers here are hard to beat. Phenomenal views, experiences, tastes, shopping, and streets to wander down are what Hong Kong offers.

In terms of safety, there’s nothing to really worry about. Take your everyday precautions as you would at home or anywhere else in the world, and you will be just peachy. There are many  places to visit in Hong Kong before you die and plenty more at the most popular destinations in Asia, too.  So just worry about where to go next, not whether or not you will be safe. 7. Nathan Road

This is one of the most photographed areas in Hong Kong. This typical neon signs that pop out of the sides of the buildings are everywhere. This is the commercial center of Tsim Sha Tsui. This is the bustling area of the city, so prepare for the chaos!

6. Sky100 Hong Kong Observation Deck

Want the best view in town? Get to this spot immediately. If you come before sunset, you will get some great day and night time photos. The sun sets, then the lights of the city come on. It’s an incredible panorama of the city and is a must do while you’re’ here.

5. The Peak

OK I lied, there is another spot to get some pretty incredible views too. The Peak is probably the most visited attraction in Hong Kong with it’s magnificent vistas. This is the tallest point on the island.

4. Lantau

This is another spot of the most visited places in Hong Kong, and it’s no secret why. This is an excellent area for hiking and other exciting activities. Check out the Chinese village of Ngong Ping, as well as the impressive plaza and gardens. The Po Lin Monastery is a tranquil getaway with gorgeous scenery, and the Wisdom Path isn’t on the tourist trail yet, so get a glimpse at this interesting 8-columned Buddhist structure. Get some culture in as well as some food in your belly at the “Venice of the Orient,” or Tai O fishing village, and get some shopping done at the Citygate Outlets. 3. Ngong Ping Cable Car

Splurge and get yourself a ride on the glass bottom gondolas here. Watch your jaw hit the floor after getting up high and seeing these views. Amazing vistas of the sea, the city, and the peaks of Lantau. There’s also one of the biggest Buddhas in the world located here, so head to Tian Tan afterwards.

2. Statue Square

Take yourself out of Asia for moment and out of these neo-classical buildings like the former Supreme Court building. This area has some of the last standing colonial buildings in the country. You might wonder where at the statues have gone, considering the name, and we do promise there were here before. However during the second World War the Japanese stole them.

And, the best place to visit in Hong Kong before you die is: Stanley and Repulse Bay

Are you “city-ed out” and ready for a break from the hustle and bustle. Yeah, we hear you. It can get intense in a large city, so retreat here for a bit of a getaway. First off, the shopping at Stanley Market is a must-experience. If you’re going to go to a market while you’re here, it has to be this one. Antiques, unique artwork, clothing and toys are all here, pick up some of the best souvenirs for your loved ones stuck at home. Take a stroll  along the Stanley Waterfront promenade and keep an eye out for a photoshoot since this is a popular spot for soap-operas to film or models to strut their stuff for the cover of Vogue.

I know what you’re thinking though, you wanted relaxation, that was the point of mentioning this spot, I digress, have no worries. There are beaches to relax on. Take a load off on Repulse Bay and just chill. But know there are several other attractions of interest here, so don’t be rushed to leave this spot any time soon!
