India remains the top country with the highest rate of vegetarianism in the world. About 40% of the entire population are vegetarians. Due to Buddhism and Jainism which emphasize respect for all forms of life, India is one of the countries with least meat consumption in the world. It seems that the number of non-vegetarians in India has decreased by about 4% in recent years. Also, urban areas are more vegetarian than rural regions.
