10 Countries with the Most Facebook Inc (FB), Twitter Inc (TWTR) and Instagram Users

Social media has become such an important part of our lives that it’s no surprise that the number of users keeps growing and growing, including in these 10 countries with the most Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) and Instagram users.

The rise of the social networks over the past decade has set out a trend across the world. It’s not just Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat that are making history, but also other types of more localized networks such as China’s Weibo and Renren, or Russia’s VKontakte to name a few.

The most used, however, are the ones named above. Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) alone has 1.7 billion monthly active users, Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) about 313 million, and Instagram over 500 million. They’re a phenomena in their own right and paint an interesting picture of the world around us and its need to stay connected and informed even when life gets in the way.

The fact that Facebook, for instance, managed to reach 1.7 billion monthly users isn’t a surprise since the number has been climbing for a long time. In fact, for the past few years, Facebook has been the only social network to also give out a different metric – that of the number of daily unique users, which stands at 1.13 billion. It is one of the largest websites in the world!

For our list, we checked out the list of countries where each network has the largest number of users. Then, we wanted to know just what percentage of the population that number represented. We then ranked and handed out scores depending on their position before doing the math and coming up with the final scores. If instead of a number you find another marking, it means there’s currently no available data for it.

Without further ado, here are the 10 countries with the most Facebook, Twitter and Instagram users.

10. Indonesia

Indonesia is one of the most attractive markets in Asia for tech companies. The country, home to some 250 million people, has one of the highest concentrations of social media users. In fact, out of the total population, some 88 million use the Internet and 79 million are active social media fans. Facebook apparently has over 77.5 million users in this country, while Instagram has 9 million. Twitter is also rather popular here, with over 24 million users of the service residing in Indonesia.

The numbers are great and they’re only going to keep growing. In January 2016 the year-over-year growth in the number of active social media users was 10%, while the growth in the number of active Internet users was 15%. This alone makes it easy to see that the social media usage in Indonesia is going to keep climbing in the years to come, making it one of the most exciting markets out there.

9. France

Next on our list of countries with the most Facebook, Twitter and Instagram users is France, a country with over 66 million people. Out of these 66 million people, over 30 million are Facebook users and 10 million use Instagram. Statista estimated a couple of years back that in 2016 the number of social network users would be 28 million, a number that has obviously been surpassed given just how many people use Facebook alone. Data from eMarketer shows that women in France are more avid social network users than men, with 60.7% of them checking out at least one of these networks every day, compared to 53.5% of men. When it comes to age distribution, people between 15 and 24 check out social network sites the most often. More specifically, 75.4% of them check out the sites at least once a day, followed by those between 25 and 34 where 66.7% of them do the same.

8. Brazil

There are some 200 million people living in Brazil, out of which over 52% have an Internet connection, with the number growing steadily. Data indicates over 90 million Brazilians have a Facebook account, while about 27 million post pictures on Instagram. Twitter is another popular network, with over 18 million users coming from the largest country in South America.

7. Japan

Japan is one of the countries that has the most Internet users. In fact, about 90% of the 127 million citizens in the country have some type of Internet connection, which is great. When it comes to using western social media, however, things aren’t quite the same. In fact, only 22% of all of Japan’s citizens have a Facebook account, while another 18% are active on Twitter. Another 8% of Japanese citizens have an Instagram account which they use regularly.

Up next in our list of countries with the most Facebook, Twitter and Instagram users is Poland, which is one of the European countries where Internet usage is growing constantly. In fact, over 67% of the population has an Internet connection, which is quite an impressive stat, although it could obviously be better. Out of the 38 million residents of the country, about 14 million have a Facebook account and 11 million an Instagram account. While the official Twitter numbers are unknown, there are surely plenty of those too.

5. Turkey

About half the population of Turkey that ranks 5th in our list of countries with the most Facebook, Twitter and Instagram users, has Internet access nowadays and there are plenty of people making use of it by checking out the many social networks out there. In fact, out of the 75 million people living in Turkey, about 33 million have a Facebook account they use frequently. Similarly, over 16 million people use Instagram on a regular basis.

While this may be great, there have been some issues with social media being blocked in the past during periods of political turmoil, in an effort to either stop communication between various individuals or to stop the world from knowing what was really happening in the country. Of course, with a simple VPN app, all the blockades set up by the country’s leaders become useless, but not everyone knows how to use such an app or even that they exist.

Up next in our list of countries with the most Facebook, Twitter and Instagram users is Spain, a European country where some 72% of the population has access to an Internet connection. Out of the country’s population of nearly 47 million people, about 46% have a Facebook account, or over 21 million. Facebook leads the way as the most popular social media site in Spain, with the others following well behind. For instance, Twitter has some 7.5 million users here, or 16% of the entire population, while Instagram has reached 8.5 million people.

3. United Kingdom

Over the pond, in the United Kingdom that ranks 3rd in our list of countries with the most Facebook, Twitter and Instagram users, the Internet reach is over 90%, which is quite impressive, especially since the UK has over 64 million citizens. Out of these, over 57% have a Facebook account, or 36.5 million people. When it comes to Instagram and Twitter, the numbers are similar in regards to the user base. There are over 14.1 million Instagram users living in the United Kingdom and just a bit less than like sending 140 character messages out into the digital world.

Up next in our list of countries with the most Facebook, Twitter and Instagram users is the United States of America. There are over 318 million people living in the US and over 84% of them have an Internet connection. What social network is their favorite? That’s easy, since Facebook is the most popular nearly everywhere in the world. The numbers, however, are impressive. Over 191 million people in the United States have a Facebook account.

Instagram is quite popular too, with some 88.5 million users across the US. Twitter isn’t left far behind either, since it has over 67.5 million users in the country that created it.

Of course, numbers vary, and loyalties vary as well, with people switching from one social network to another, depending on their needs and desires on any particular day. That makes sense, and it’s something that we see every day in all aspects of our lives, so why not online too, right?

Out of the entire population, over 64% have a Facebook account, or, more specifically, over 22 million people. With an Internet reach of over 86%, it’s really no surprise that so many people spend their time on social networks. That being said, Instagram also has some 11 million users in Canada, or 31% of the population. Data also indicates that there are over 7.5 million Twitter users in Canada, with the number predicted to grow to 8.5 million in the next couple of years.

Well, even so, these are impressive numbers that give us just a little taste of how important human interaction is for everyone, even if it’s over the Internet. That being said, these were the 10 countries with the most Facebook, Twitter and Instagram users.
