9. San Bernadino

Unfortunately, this is yet another example of terrorism. With the events being rather fresh, only happening at the beginning of December, the San Bernadino event still managed to make it onto the top 10, showing just how interested the world was in what happened.

In short, two spouses, Tashfeen Malik and Syed Rizwan Farook opened fire on Farook’s co-workers on December 2, killing 14 people in the process. Following a shootout with the police several hours later, the two died as well. While Farook was born in the United States, Malik was a native of Pakistan. Despite multiple checks, nothing came up on either of them. This meant nothing however, as police reports indicate that the two were actually building explosives within their home.
