The acceptance rate of Dartmouth college has increase has one of the largest percentage increases in our list of best Ivy League schools ranked by selectivity. The school was founded way back in 1769, and is considered to be the ninth oldest educational institution in the United States of America. Initially, it was established to teach Native Americans Christianity and the English way of living, since this was in colonial times. Later on, it trained Congregationalist ministers, and was basically just another college, before emerging into the national spotlight in the 20th century.

Currently the University provides instruction in 40 academic departments for undergrads and has 57 majors some of which include natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. There are 5 schools within Dartmouth, which are the Geisel School of Medicine, the Tuck School of Business, the Thayer school of engineering, the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, and of course, the original undergraduate college. It has constantly been among the very top colleges in the United States for decades now and has 170 alumni in the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives, 10 billionaires, 24 U.S. governors, 3 Nobel Laureates, 2 U.S. Supreme Court Justices and 13 Pulitzer Prize winners, among a host of Rhode scholars, Fulbright scholars and CEOs of the Fortune 500 corporations, in addition to distinguished athletes and Olympic medalists.
