7. Squash
Why is the number 7 on our list of examples of genetically modified foods with full explanations, special? Because, genetically modified squash is only planted in the United States. It became commercially available in 1995. The genetic modification included higher virus resistance, mainly Squash mosaic virus, which were destroying as much as 80 percent of the harvest in the United States and Canada.
