Miriam Blocher is a daughter of Christoph Blocher, head of the rightwing Swiss People’s Party, who has sparked a lot of controversies. Until 2004, Christoph Blocher led Ems Group, Swiss manufacturer and supplier of polymers that has 26 production sites in 16 different countries. When he became the member of the Swiss government, he left the company selling his stock evenly to his four children. Miriam sold shares to her sisters. Since 2007, she owns Läckerli-Huus, a Swiss confectionary and baked goods company.

In one interview, she said that she would never consider being politically active. As she explained, watching her father political engagement reinforced her opinion that political career was not for her.
