5. Jennifer Lawrence Trips and Falls at the Oscars

Not only once, but twice did Jennifer Lawrence trip and fall at the Academy Awards. The first time was at the 2013 ceremony, during the greatest moment of her career. Naturally, winning the Oscar for Best Actress is probably the greatest honor for any star. The then 22-year-old was undoubtedly astonished and nervous when she won the award, so as she was climbing the steps to accept the statuette, she tripped over her gown and fell. As if that moment hadn’t been embarrassing enough, this year the The Hunger Games star fell once more, only this time it was as she was getting out of her limo and preparing to walk the red carpet.

4. Janet Jackson’s Wardrobe Malfunction During the Super Bowl XXXVIII Halftime

On live television, there’s always a nip slip waiting to happen, but Janet Jackson’s is probably the most renowned one. In an incident that is sometimes referred to as Nipplegate, Jackson’s breast was exposed by Justin Timberlake during the halftime of the 2004 Super Bowl. Luckily, not everything was revealed, as the singer’s nipple was adorned with a nipple shield and her breast was seen only for about half a second. However, as it happened durin one of the most watched televised events of the year, the ‘wardrobe malfunction’ brought about a lot of debate and controversy.

3. George Galloway Pretends to Be a Cat

We have to sail across the Atlantic to experience one of the most embarrassing moments of a politician’s career caught live on camera. In 2006, then-MP George Galloway entered Celebrity Big Brother to apparently raise his public profile. With his time in the house, he did just that, though not for the best of reasons. Galloway, a British politician very critical of the Iraq war, pretended to be a cat on camera. He purred, paraded on all fours on the floor and even pretended to drink milk out of his housemate’s hands. An episode both embarrassing and unforgettable.

2. Kanye West and Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMAs

At the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift won the Moonman for Best Female Video with “You Belong With Me”. Little did she know that halfway through her acceptance speech, Kanye West would storm the stage, grab the microphone, and state that Beyoncé’s video “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” deserved the award for she had one of the “best videos of all time” according to the rapper. Everyone in the audience was astonished and baffled, an even Beyoncé looked more embarrassed than flattered.

1. Christina Aguilera Singing the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLV

This moment stands at the top of our countdown because there’s nothing more embarrassing than messing up the lyrics of your country’s National Anthem. All Americans learn “The Star-Spangled Banner” at an early age, so chances are that “Xtina” never learned the proper lyrics. Instead of “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming” the pop star’s free version was “What so proudly we watched, were so gallantly streaming”. The Super Bowl always gives us memorable moments to cherish forever, from lip-syncing to nude breasts; but there’s definitely nothing more horrifying and embarrassing than that National Anthem debacle.
