There are more lovely places to visit in Liberia before you die than you think. It’s no secret that Liberia is not topping the lists of places people must-visit list, however if you are an adventurous traveler and literally every country is fair game for you, then you might just be moving this one up a few spaces.

Liberia is a great place to travel to because it’s quite full of surprises considering most people don’t have any expectations. The places to go here aren’t really known, so everything will come as a wonderful surprise. For example, if you’re big on fishing, but not on the crowds of people taking up “your” fishing space, there’s some excellent fishing opportunities here and the amount of boats near you will be sparse. Wander around the national parks, or take intrepid treks through mountains with views of the neighboring countries and untouched nature all around you. 7. Harper

In need of some sand and sea? This is the right place for that. Here is Liberia’s beach getaway and it’s a top holiday destination. Get your surfboard ready, your dive gear prepped, and your sunscreen slathered on for a fun day at the beach.

6. Lofa Rainforest

This lush rainforest has gushing streams and rivers through that empty out to some mangroves. For a way to cross these turbulent waters the communities in the area hold a ceremony in which they make monkey bridges, all from rainforest material. This is one unique way to monkey your way through the forest!

5. Robersspot

The constant and foreseeable waves that crash on these beaches make surfers flock here making this the country’s top surfing beach. Take some lessons and get yourself out there during the week, and on the weekends relax on the beach and rest your body.

4. Wologizi Mountains

Near the village of Lisco are some seriously impressive mountains  filled with dense jungle,  most of which is unmapped. The trail will lead you around hills and past waterfalls, and you will end up on the highest point of Liberia, Wologizi. You will be rewarded with magnificent views of neighboring Sierra Leone and Guinea.

3. East Nimba Nature Reserve

For an odd and adorable attraction you could make your way through this rainforest filled with wildlife like monkeys and birds, but the main creature to lay your eyes on are the pygmy hippos that call this reserve home.

2. Monrovia

This is the country’s capital, and it will likely be inevitable during your stay. The city has some history as it will be apparent at the state of the ruinous buildings, but there are some interesting places to see. To learn more about the antiquity, visit the Liberian National Museum. The Executive Mansion is the president’s home and you can wander around a few rooms with a few displays of historical importance.

If you’re into deep-sea fishing, just a few miles off the shores are heaps of different fish just swimming around the sea trenches. Yellowfin tuna, marlin and many more large fish are here, just charter a boat at the pier.

A rural area under an hour away from Monrovia is a beach escape. The nearby Mony island has a clan of chimpanzees that have been rescued, and the cultural village of Olokor is worth a visit for the performances. When it’s time to turn in for the night, you can camp on the beach after asking a local for a good spot.
