Chinese brands are more successful than foreign brands but it is also a fact that brands owned privately did much better than brands owned by State-owned companies. Visionaries such as Alibaba’s Jack Ma, Baidu’s Robin Li, and Ma Huateng of Tencent are behind some of the most valuable brands. Following, we would like to present you with a list we have compiled of the top most valuable brands in China, based on the statistics recently released by Hurun Report.
No. 5: T-MALL (formerly known as Taobao Mall)
Brand value: $5.7 billion
Selling to customers in China, Macau, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, T-MALL is e-commerce platform facilitating transactions between businesses and consumers. Spun off the original Taobao (which you’ll find further down on our countdown), T-MALL was established as a way to provide consumers with goods originating solely from authorized dealers and brand owners.
No. 4: PING AN
Brand value: $8.2 billion
The “oldest” company on our countdown of the most valuable brands in China, PING AN is a financial services firm, founded back in 1988. The only company on our countdown not related to e-commerce and Internet services, PING AN has made a name for itself over the years and is currently part of the stock exchanges both in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
No. 3: TAOBAO
Brand value: $22 billion
Working on a concept similar to that used by Amazon or eBay, TAOBAO is the biggest e-commerce platform on the Chinese market. With a history of a little over a decade, TAOBAO has nowadays become one of the most accessed websites in the entire world.
No. 2: BAIDU
Brand value: $22.6 billion
While most of the world still relies on Google for their day to day Internet browsing, Chinese consumers seems to stick true to a local provided – Baidu. Founded over 14 years ago, Baidu is now in charge of nearly 80% of the entire search engine market in China, which also helps explain why it has made our countdown of the most valuable brands in China.
