Every sound we hear can be turned into something beautiful and special, whether by using instruments or just our voices. Many people believe that music is magical, and why wouldn’t it be? Of course, there are those who make music better than others, and they’ve all taken up their place in the musical hall of fame. There isn’t a clear ranking made anywhere about the most popular pop songs of all time, and that is why the ranking isn’t based on popularity, it is somewhat randomly arranged. But still we have a quite good collection of popular pop songs, and we are sure you have already heard all of them. So come on, let’s check it out!

15. “Superstition” – Stevie Wonder

“Superstition” is a song released in 1972, by the legend Stevie Wonder. He is the original performer of this song, but also the writer and producer. The song reached number one in the U. S. charts quickly upon its release and was also in the Rolling Stone’s cover story – The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

It’s hard to measure the popularity of these songs when they have not been released at the same time, or even in the same century. Still, we are sure this one would top that list with ease. A record of over 2.37 billion views on YouTube was recognized by Guinness World Records as the most “liked” song video, ever. It was released in 2012, by the South Korean musician Psy.

“Sweet Dreams” is a song written and performed by Eurythmics, a British new wave music duo. It was released in 1983, and has reached the first place on the US Billboard Hot 100. This song helped Eurythmics breakthrough into commercial success.

Whitney Houston was one of the most popular music artists of all time, there is no question about it. That’s why we saw it fit to put at least one of her songs in here, and that is “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”. Released in 1987, it was written by George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam. If you thought her hit “I Will Always Love You” was more famous than this one, you are wrong. At least, when it comes to numbers.

8. “Endless Love” – Diana Ross & Lionel Richie

This one is very special, as it’s the only duet song on this list. It is something you must all have heard of, as it’s considered as one of the greatest song duets of all time. It was written by Lionel Richie, and performed by him and Diana Ross. “Endless Love” was released in 1981.

Approximately eight million copies of this single have been sold, and there isn’t a single professional critics’ list of the most popular pop songs of all time where “Hey Jude” isn’t included. Written and released in 1968 by one of the most famous bands ever, the Beatles, it is a work of art, and is the longest number one holder in the U.S. compared to other Beatles’ songs.

In 6^th place stands the only non-English song here. It is a Spanish dance song by Los del Rio, released in 1995. There’s no doubt you’ve heard of it, after all, who hasn’t danced a little bit to the “#1 Greatest One-Hit Wonder of all time” – “Macarena”?

What we wrote about “Gangnam Style” could almost certainly be said about this evergreen song. Billie Jean is considered as the most popular song performed by Michael Jackson. It was released in 1983 and since that time it collected numerous trophies and awards.

4.”The Twist” – Hank Ballard and the Midnighters

 “The Twist” is a song written and released in 1959 by Hank Ballard and the Midnighters, but it’s actually gained tremendous popularity after Chubby Checker’s 1960 cover. And also after another recording of the same song, by The Fat Boys, featuring Chubby Checker, in 1988.

Smooth is the absolute winner according to many charts, magazines and artists. It was released in 1999 as a collaboration between the famous Santana (band) and Rob Thomas. What’s most incredible about all of these songs we presented you, is the fact that it doesn’t matter at all if it’s from the 60s, 70s or the past few years. All of them have something special, which makes them the most popular songs in their genre.
