There are so many amazing places to visit in Australia before you die, but there are a few things that are synonymous with the country. Most would probably think of Sydney and its admirable Opera House and Bridge, or maybe one would think of the delicate and gorgeous Great Barrier Reef that is host to a plethora of fascinating wildlife.

While these few destinations are a big draw for Australia’s tourism market, there are heaps more reasons why Australia should be on your list of places to go. It terms of safety, the people are known to be pretty friendly, and while there is crime, like there is in most major cities in the world, it hardly affects tourist. 6. Fraser Island

The largest sand island on earth also happens to be one of the most gorgeous in the country. The beaches are impeccable, displaying blue water against its stark white sand, lush forests, flora and fauna, and plenty of water activities like snorkeling and diving off it’s coastal waters.

5. Byron Bay

Here’s one of the typical beaches to name, but it’s not surprising why. It offers up a top notch selection of tourist amenities, awesome sand, sun and surf, and all the other exciting activities that go with being on a gorgeous beach. 4. The Great Ocean Road

If you were to drive one last stretch of highway in your life, this would be it. Over 240 km of epic twists and turns on a everlasting road of ocean vistas and cliffs galore. Wind your way around this road for as long as you like as there’s tons of sightseeing to do along the way.

3. Sydney

Yes, we all know about the Sydney Opera House and the Harbor Bridge, but besides these iconic landmarks of the city, and country for that matter, Sydney offers up way more than just that. The food and markets, the incredible shopping, parties, monthly events, animal encounters, nightlife, and nature parks are just a few things to mention.

2. Kakadu National Park

Get a dose of nature and culture smacked into one here. Explore caves with ancient painting amounting to more than 5,000 of them on the rocks. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has some truly remarkable wildlife as well. Many are rare and endangered. The saltwater croc, of course, makes its appearance here, but you’ll need to keep your eyes open for the rest.

Get down to the island of Tasmania for this last spot. The rugged terrain, but simply jaw-droppingly beautiful panoramas make this place a haven for natural attractions. The famous Wineglass Bay make other beaches look lame, the rock pools and water activities like diving and snorkeling are fantastic here, and multiday hikes are a chance to see the outstanding forest trails.
