Elvis died in 1977, at only 42 years of age. In his later years, his health kept deteriorating and he ended up gaining enough weight that his signature moves weren’t leaving that much of an impression. Elvis took up drugs, which ended up being the cause of his death. The reports at the time indicated that he had suffered from heart failure, most likely caused by the multiple drugs found in his system. The official autopsy report was sealed by Presley’s family and it will remain so until 2027.

Just like in the case of other famous and loved people, there are plenty of theories surrounding this legendary musician, which is why we’re listing 6 Elvis Presley conspiracy theories. If you want, you can also take a look at 6 conspiracy theories about Princess Diana’s death.

6. Real or fake photos?

After Elvis died there was a media frenzy. Not only were fans desperate to get a last look at their idol, but newspapers and magazines were ready to do just about anything to get their hands on some images to publish, regardless of whether this was ethical or not. The National Enquirer reportedly paid someone to get into the funeral home and to take photos of the dead body.

Fans were quick to notice that while there was a resemblance, there were also differences, including the shape of the eyebrows, the chin and so on. This led people to believe that this was a dummy made out of wax and not Elvis himself.

5. John Burrows

There’s a story that the day after Elvis was found dead, a man purchased a one-way ticket at the Memphis Airport towards Buenos Aires, Argentina. The man’s resemblance to Elvis was uncanny and the name too much of a coincidence to not draw attention. Apparently, John Burrows was the name people in Elvis’ entourage used when booking hotel rooms for him in order to fly under the radar of the media.

4. The King’s voice

In 2001, a new album of Elvis cover songs was released, boasting that it was featuring “the voice of Elvis.” Of course, given the year it was released and the songs it included, it would have been impossible for Elvis himself to have somehow recorded these tracks before his death.

Conspiracy theorists were quick to jump on the wagon and to claim that it was, in fact, Elvis’ voice on the recording, saying that this wasn’t possibly an impersonator, but had to be The King himself. The producer named Doug Church as the voice of Elvis, however, so there’s that.

3. Cause of death

Decades after The King died, his former friend and personal physician, Dr. George Nichopoulous came forth with a weird theory stating that the King hadn’t died of cardiac arrhythmia. Instead, he claims that the cause of death was chronic constipation, leaving everyone rather baffled. It’s not that long until 2027 and we’ll know for sure when the autopsy files are released. Until then, this is one of the 6 Elvis Presley conspiracy theories.

2. Witness protection

Because fans of various artists never want to believe their idols are truly gone, some have launched the idea that Elvis is actually in witness protection. Back in the 90s, several TV programs tried to figure out the mystery of Elvis’ death. In these shows, they suggested that Presley actually went into Witness Protection after being a part of an operation against Mafia bosses. Afraid of losing his life, he had to fake his own death and to leave his life behind.

1. Elvis is alive

Finally, the biggest conspiracy theory of them all is the fact that Elvis is actually still alive. His death had been staged and the King lives on, under a different identity. Elvis is probably the one celebrity that has been sighted more than any other after their deaths. It’s funny really, considering that if Elvis was trying to hide, he was doing a poor job of it taking into account just how many times he was seen. This is the most frequently heard of the 6 Elvis Presley Conspiracy Theories.
