Of course, it’s nearly impossible to broadly define the word “useful” because it means many different things to many different people. It could mean anything from “entertaining” to “adorable” to “practical.” But we believed this was the best system for finding the most widely useful products, though no doubt there are many other products on Amazon that you might find more useful than others do.

When it comes to the item’s cost, we only ranked items that were under $20. But the more inexpensive the item, the more points we racked up for it. Because everyone likes a bargain. Products up to $10 received 2 points, so you can also find some cool things to buy on Amazon under $5 and $10, while products from $10- $19.99 received 1 point.

Oh, and there’s one last factor. To determine whether an item was “cool,” we only ranked items that appeared on Amazon’s new and interesting finds page that’s updated daily. Like the word “useful,” the meaning of the word “cool” can vary from person to person, but hey, if Amazon says it’s cool, it’s most likely cool to anyone.
