10 Whitest Cities in the South

The United States is indeed culturally diverse, but these are the 10 whitest cities in the South.

Before we introduce our list, it is important to emphasize that this research is in no way based on racist views and white supremacy. We do not encourage racism, and this list is entirely made for the sake of curiosity and gaining insight into statistical data. So, we decided to find out just how white Southern cities are and we tried to find some numbers. Speaking of numbers, if you haven’t checked out our 15 Cities with the Largest White Population in America, I suggest you take a look. Although you won’t find towns that are 100% white on that list, you can learn more about cities in America which have the largest percentage of the white population. Moreover, check out Index Mundi’s rankings of states according to the white population percentage in case you are interested in, for example, Idaho white population percentage or what percentage of Tennessee is white. The South of the United States includes Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. The South was largely characterized by the white domination of blacks ever since the 17th century, and it wasn’t until after the WWII that the situation began to change slightly. The South was also characterized by the plantation slavery system, and almost the entire workforce was comprised of black people.

Fortunately, the situation changed and the South is now more diverse than it used to be. Nevertheless, there are many places in the South that are still mostly white, meaning the majority of the population are people of Caucasian descent. Among the whitest cities in North Carolina, for example, are Oak Island, Unionville, and Carolina Beach, while the whitest cities in Florida include Sanibel, Gulf Breeze, and South Pasadena among others. But of course, we must consider the size of these towns which are significantly smaller than the ones on our list today.

To come up with our list, we researched just how white the population is in Southern countries including the whitest towns in South Carolina and whitest cities in Virginia. Of course, there are a lot of small places with a thousand residents or even less that are 100% white, but since our list is limited to 10 cities, we only considered larger cities with at least 30,000 residents and ranked them according to the percentage of the white population. We relied on data from Suburban Stats to rank the cities.
