Up next in our list of states with the lowest number of physicians per capita is Utah that suffers from a low number of students enrolled per capita of 13.5, due to having only one medical school. Rocky Vista University should open up a new campus in Ivins in 2017, which should help alleviate the problem.
Number of residents and fellows in ACGME per capita 24.8 could be better, but obesity rate of 24.5 percent actually puts Utah among 10 least obese states, and hypertension rate of 23.6 percent is the lowest of all states, physical inactivity rate of 20.3 percent is also among the lowest and diabetes rate of 7 percent is the second lowest rate. With life expectancy at birth of 80.2 years, percent of the population without health insurance of 12.5 seems unexpectedly high.
