Billionaire Paul Singer’s Elliott Associates Top Stock Picks

Elliott Associates was founded by Paul Singer in 1977 and together with Elliott International, forms the Elliott Management Corporation, which manages roughly $15 billion of capital for large institutional investors and wealthy individuals alike. In its latest 13F, Eliott disclosed an equity portfolio worth $4.41 billion, down from $5.44 billion in the third quarter.

We have picked the top five holdings in terms of value that Elliott has held in its equity portfolio at the end of last year.

On the first spot is Hess Corp. (NYSE:HES), in which the fund owns 17.10 million shares, with a reported value of around $1.42 billion. The position remained unchanged over the quarter. Hess Corp. (NYSE:HES) is a global independent energy company engaged in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas.

The second most valuable holding in Elliott’s equity portfolio is NetApp Inc. (NASDAQ:NTAP), which creates innovative storage and data management solutions that deliver outstanding cost efficiency and accelerate business breakthroughs. The fund holds 10.75 million shares of the company, worth $442.26 million. As with the previous position, the holding has not been changed over the quarter.

The third position is held by Twenty-First Century Fox Inc (NASDAQ:FOX), in which the fund boosted its position to 11.40 million shares from 10.10 million shares held at the end of the third quarter. The value of holding is $394.40 million.

Delphi Automotive PLC (NYSE:DLPH) is the fourth-largest holding, in which the fund reduced its stake to 4.88 million shares from 13.70 million shares held at the end of September 2013. The value of current holding is $293.46 million.

During the fourth quarter of 2013, Delphi Automotive PLC (NYSE:DLPH) repurchased 1.69 million shares for about $95 million under its existing $750 million share repurchase program, leaving about $190 million available for future share repurchases under the program.

The fifth position in Elliott’s equity portfolio is represented by Riverbed Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:RVBD), in which the fund disclosed ownership of 14.72 million shares, up from 6.48 million held at the end of the third quarter.
