Another cool thing is that Netflix puts a lot of effort into making original content. TV shows, movies, documentaries, you name it. If you type in best Netflix series 2017 on Google, the results will be probably dominated by their originals. Of course, there are some misses (like giving Adam Sandler loads of money for 4 movies) but there are also lots of Netflix originals worth watching. This is the reason why Netflix plans to have at least 50% of their own content in the library in the following years. Besides making their own shows, Netflix decided to resurrect some old ones that were prematurely canceled by their original network. It looks like the company is keeping an eye on people’s wishes and giving them what they want. Thanks to that we can enjoy best TV shows on Netflix.
In order to compile our list of best TV shows and original series to watch on Netflix, we looked for all originals made by Netflix listed on their site. Then we checked the TV shows and series for their IMDb rating. Those that had the highest rating entered the list. We didn’t take into consideration the shows and series Netflix had the right of the first run or had exclusive broadcasting rights on certain territories. We did consider the shows that originated elsewhere but had new seasons made by Netflix. Strap in and surround yourself with lots of popcorn, because these are the best TV shows and original series to watch on Netflix according to the audience.
16. The Get Down

The first entry on our list will take you back to the ’70s, the time when hip-hop, disco, and R&B music were on the rise. The Get Down follows a group of teenagers and lets you experience the period through their eyes. Unfortunately, this TV show was canceled after 11 episodes.
15. Sense8

Lots of good TV shows seem to get canceled prematurely. Sense8 also find itself on the chopping block, but the 2 seasons available on Netflix will surely be quite enjoyable if you like science fiction. The premise of the show revolves around 8 strangers who are mentally linked and are fighting against a common threat.
14. BoJack Horseman

If you like your sitcoms animated and you went through The Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy, then BoJack Horseman will be your new favorite TV show. It follows a humanoid horse, who was once a Hollywood star, as he tries to recoup his former glory and become a Hollywood’s favorite once again. Just make sure your kids are not around when you turn on the show.

This mockumentary TV series originally aired from 2001 to 2007 and had 7 seasons. It followed lives of trailer park residents and shows how they cope with everyday challenges. The series was picked up by Netflix, with the streaming service creating 4 new seasons.

Jason Bateman stars as Martin “Marty” Byrde, who is a financial advisor and serves as a money launderer for the Mexican drug cartel on the side. After his money laundering gig goes wrong, he is forced to relocate with his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks.

Don’t worry; we have documentary series on the list as well. This critically acclaimed Netflix original revolves around five directors (John Ford, William Wyler, John Huston, Frank Capra, and George Stevens) and their work during the World War II. Their documentaries from that time are analyzed by the modern filmmakers including Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, and Guillermo del Toro.

The story of the 13 Reasons Why starts when teenager Clay finds audio diaries in which his friend and crush Hannah reveals 13 reasons why she committed suicide. It is then discovered that each tape is dedicated to one person and its involvement in Hannah’s suicide. The TV show is based on the novel Thirteen Reasons Why, written by Jay Asher.

We have another novel adaptation on the list. This time it’s Anne of Green Gables, written by Lucy Maud Montgomery. For those of you who didn’t read the book, it talks about an orphaned girl Anna who is adopted by a brother and sister. Siblings had an intention to adopt a boy, but they ultimately accept Anna as their own. The show currently has one season with the second one being expected in 2018.
8. Daredevil

Netflix isn’t a stranger when it comes to adapting comics, but Daredevil could be their best product that revolves around superheroes. After a disastrous movie from 2003, that almost ended Ben Affleck’s acting career, this Netflix made TV show finally presented the character right. Daredevil is a show about blind lawyer Matt Murdock who fights crime using his superhuman senses.
7. The Crown

If you are one of those people interested in royalties, the Netflix’s TV show about Queen Elizabeth II should be on top of your list. The show follows Queen Elizabeth II from the early days to the present. Currently, there is one season available with the second being scheduled for the end of 2017. The Crown should have 6 seasons with each being focused on the certain period of Queen’s life.
6. Making a Murderer

His freedom didn’t last long since he was arrested again, this time under the charges that he killed a photographer Teresa Halbach. Arrested Development isn’t Netflix original and began airing years before Netflix even existed. But Netflix resurrected the show after it was canceled and made 15 new episodes with the additional season being announced. The show follows a dysfunctional and once wealthy Bluth family and the way they cope with sudden bankruptcy and other problems.
4. Black Mirror

Black Mirror was also created on another network, but Netflix took it upon itself and created Season 3 and Season 4. Each episode of this science-fiction show is stand-alone and revolves around a variety of subjects while being set in alternate timelines.
3. Narcos

In the third place on our list of best TV shows and original series to watch on Netflix, we have Narcos. For the first two seasons, Narcos follows the life and death of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. The show picks up from the moment Escobar started with cocaine manufacturing until he was shot dead by Colombian police. The season 3 of the show follows the conflict between DEA agents and Cali Cartel. Season 4 will premiere in 2018.
2. Stranger Things

Stranger Things debuted in 2016 and took the world by storm. The show is set in the ’80s and revolves around a missing boy and the efforts of his family and friends to find him. Add to the mix paranormal activities and you have the show that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The Season 2 is set to premiere on 27 October, so you still have time to watch the first one and get on the hype train.
