Look, sports is one of the best things to exit in today’s world. Many of us have engaged in different types of sports whether just on a casual basis or competitively. Even though I never personally excelled at any sports, I still loved the thrill of it, and played many sports throughout my childhood and early twenties before office overtook everything, with the sports including table tennis, tennis, cricket, football, badminton and squash among others. I myself am a very competitive person, and I play to win, regardless of who my opponent is.

While I may not have the time, likes tens of millions across the world, to play sports myself, the next best thing is supporting a team. When you start supporting  a team, you support them through thick and thin, for better or for worse. Yes, this is sort of a marriage, where you are tied to your team no matter what happens, and you will find divorce to be more common than a person changing a team he has genuinely supported. Their wins, especially over major rivals or for winning a championship, can lift our moods and bring a skip in our step, while ensuring that our day goes that much better. On the other hand, a big defeat, or in fact any defeat for that matter, can ruin our day, and we might be irrationally irritated or sad. But the fact of the matter is, supporting a team and watching their games can cause us to feel emotions that we may not otherwise get to experience. I am a supporter of Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League, and have been so for over a decade, even though I live thousands of miles away and have been unable to attend a match yet. Even then, when Spurs came back from 3-0 down to beat Ajax in the Champions League semi final in 2019 after scoring in the last minute of stoppage time, or when Sterling’s goal was disallowed, again in stoppage time in the quarterfinals of the same campaign, I cannot tell you the elation I felt or how I just kept jumping up and down because to win is one thing, to win in the face of such adversity allows us to be a part of something bigger than ourselves.

The same is true for the National Football League, or the NFL in the United States. In the United States, football is only next to religion in many areas, and for many atheists, well above religion. Even at a high school or college level, city rivalries are decided by their football teams and their head to head records, while many students can get major scholarships if they’re excellent at football. Truly, football is the sport of the Americans and in a national poll, 37% of the people polled stated that football was their favorite sport, well ahead of basketball, baseball and soccer, which may be the most popular sports in the world and while making inroads in America, is still lagging behind the other major sports in the country.

The NFL is the premier professional organization where the best teams with highly sough after players play against each other. There are a total of 32 teams in the NFL and since the competition is between teams and most players being from the US, support for team generally comes down to which is your local team or the team whom you grew up watching. The average viewing of an NFL game is around 15.8 million, which are statistics that any premium TV show in the country would kill for nowadays. For contrast, the average viewing of the final season of one of the biggest TV hits of the past two decades in Big Bang Theory was around 17.3 million. So why exactly is football so insanely popular in the United States? Well you have amazing athletes for these teams performing at the top of their levels (while earning tens of millions of dollars a year) and it is always amazing to watch people perform their craft at the highest levels, leaving you gasping at the sheer skill and technique displayed by men who can also easily bench over 250 pounds. Another reason is that common interests lead to people coming together and discussing all the happenings, which is why it is easy for even the uninitiated to quickly be encouraged to learn and enter the world of supporting a team from the NFL.  And lastly, like I said it is the pure unadulterated drama that sports can generate. Last second touchdowns, last second blocks and the unpredictability of anything, with even the smallest teams able to on their day put the biggest teams on their backsides. And all of this culminates in the Super Bowl, one of the most watched events in the world and the most watched program in the United States, bringing in around 100 million people annually. Of course, where there is this much money, there is also a change of major scandals, and you can learn more about the scandals affecting the NFL if you visit the 11 biggest NFL scandals of all time.

Due to this popularity, most of the teams in NFL are extremely rich and hence, they’ve earned hundreds of millions of dollars annually while providing their players with some of the biggest salaries in sports. This has also allowed them to create futuristic stadiums which can easily seat several tens of thousands of people, while also providing amazing facilities which include premium boxes, restaurants, concessions stands, well-maintained and numerous bathrooms and ease of access for people with any sort of disabilities. These stadiums have cost hundreds of millions of dollars to build, and in some cases, the cost can even cross a billion dollars due to the sheer size and facilities required. So without further ado, let’s take a look at the best stadiums in the entire league, ranked by their capacity, starting with number 15:

15. Nissan Stadium

Total capacity of the stadium: 69,143

Located in Nashville, Tennessee, Nissan Stadium hosts the Tennessee Titans and opened in 1999, with construction costing around $290 million.
