We have compiled a list of 10 largest egg producing countries in the world from data provided by Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of United Nations. China tops the list with almost 39% of the total global production with the other nine countries accounting for another 31% of the global production.

10. Turkey – 1%

With annual egg production around 1.03 million tons Turkey ranks tenth on our list of 100 largest egg producing countries in the world. The egg producers have a producers’ organization that helps protecting their own rights and interests. The Turkish Egg Producers Association is a member of International Egg Commission. Turkey’s geographical location is also an added advantage to export to the other countries.

9. Ukraine – 2%

Ukraine in the ninth largest egg producer globally with a 2% share of the total eggs produced. Ukraine exports approximately 5% of the eggs it produces. The country received permission to export eggs to the European Union in April 2015. Total production is expected to increase to 18.5 billion units by 2016.

8. Indonesia – 2%

Indonesia is the seventh largest egg producing country with an annual production of 1.22 million tons, constituting 2% of the global egg production. The country’s tea eggs (telur pindang) and healthy eggs are quite popular. Indonesia’s poultry industry is geographically highly concentrated, largely in Western Java.

7. Russia – 3%

Russian annual egg production stands at 2.28 million tons. Saratov region, Chechnya, and Kabardino-Balkaria have recorded increased production of eggs in Russia. The local egg producers might benefit from import bans on eggs and other agricultural produce in Russia. Prioskolye is the largest egg producing company in Russia with a flock size of 5 million.

6. Brazil – 3%

Brazil amasses 3% of the worldwide egg production. Brazilian egg production totaled 39.5 billion units in 2015, a 6% hike from the previous year. Some of the large eggs producing states in Brazil are Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo and Mato Grosso.

With a production of 2.5 million tons of eggs, Mexico ranks fifth on our list of largest egg producing countries in the world. The country accounts for 3% of the global egg production. Mexico has a large per capital consumption of eggs in the world. The egg industry had suffered a great deal as a result of avian influenza outbreak. As a result, Mexican egg exports are permitted if they are breaking eggs, pathogen-free or have received a thermal process. 4. Japan – 3.4%

Japan ranks fourth in the global egg production, with a total of about 2.52 million tons of eggs. This accounted for 3.4% of the total world production. Japan also produces white on white eggs from rice-fed hens. The demand for eggs and egg products in Japan is greater than the domestic supply, which is why Japan also imports a considerable amount. China has experienced vigorous growth in the poultry sector over the last twenty years. Poultry production now account for a larger proportion of China’s total livestock production. Egg production has increased tremendously from just 5.35 million tons in 1995 to 29 million tons in 2013. China’s egg production is mainly concentrated in Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Hubei, Anhui, Heilongjiang, and Jilin provinces.
