“Down By The Riverside” is a spiritual song with roots going back before the American Civil War. First, this song was published in 1918 by the Fisk University Jubilee Quartet and is also known as “Ain’t Going To Study War No More”. It was published in Columbia in 1922 and there were more than 14 gospel recordings before World War II. This song has been used over the years as a war-protest song, especially during the Vietnam War. This song has a few different meanings and one of them is putting the aggression and the negativity on one side of the river while crossing to the other.
