AI Storage Rally Rolls On

The stock closed at $1,704.16 on October 5, extending one of the most extraordinary bullish rallies across the entire market. For 2026, it is up 617.90%. But over the last 12 months, it has yielded a massive 1,322.07% return. This has turned it into a mega-cap stock with approximately $249.52 billion market capitalization as of October 5. The company anticipates rapid expansion for the broader NAND market, with industry revenue projections exceeding $300 billion mark for 2026.

For Sandisk, the prospects around high-capacity solid-state storage solutions could grow further since the AI models are scaling up. Along with rising inference workloads, there is a bigger demand for data storage and access.

Margins Are Rewriting the NAND Playbook

Sandisk has been delivering strong operational performance, posting $20.25 billion in trailing-twelve-month revenue. This comes after the company delivered a 371.60% year-over-year topline growth during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026. Profitability metrics are also healthy, as it generated approximately 61.19% operating margin and 56.46% net margin for fiscal 2026. These are exceptional figures for a hardware-linked business, and stand well above what NAND flash makers have yielded historically.

Its financial position is extremely comforting for investors, with no outstanding borrowings at fiscal year-end, although it carried $201 million in operating lease liabilities. This highlights the company’s limited financial leverage. Cheap Multiples or Peak-Cycle Pricing?

Valuation for Sandisk appears cheap on paper. Despite its massive surge, the multiples still look restrained. The stock is currently trading at a trailing P/E ratio of 24.63x. Interestingly, the forward multiple stands at just 8.04x, which makes the stock more attractive. It points to consensus expectations of a threefold jump in earnings. Given the memory pricing cycle, investors are likely pricing in some risk that profits peak.

Short interest in the stock remains very modest. The short ratio is 0.48 and the short float is 6.03%, indicating shorts could cover in under a day of average volume. There is little contrarian pressure on the stock, though it also shows that some skeptics are left to become future buyers. Institutional Sentiment

Institutional interest across 1,000+ hedge funds tracked by Insider Monkey shows increasing exposure toward Sandisk. According to 13F filing data, total number of hedge funds that held positions in the stock jumped to 128 by the end of second quarter in 2026, relative to 114 in the previous quarter.

With 10.30 million shares, BlackRock is among the largest institutional investor owning 7.03% of the outstanding shares. Other notable institutional names include Vanguard Capital Management and FMR, which held 6.60% and 5.37% of outstanding shares, respectively.

Way Forward

With existing multiples, the stock looks attractive. Looking ahead, a sustained share price momentum rests on continued profitability across the entire business. What makes the case even more compelling is that the profitability is being strongly backed by robust cash generation. For fiscal 2026, operating cash flow reached $11.67 billion, while free cash flow totaled $11.49 billion and adjusted free cash flow reached $8.74 billion.

Despite the extraordinary rally, Sandisk’s valuation could leave room for further upside if AI-driven NAND demand and elevated margins remain sustainable. However, the low forward earnings multiple also reflects the risk that current profitability is approaching a cyclical peak. The stock’s attractiveness ultimately depends on whether Sandisk can sustain earnings growth as NAND pricing conditions normalize.
