Intuitive Machines Inc. (NASDAQ:LUNR) is scaling up its satellite communications footprint. Following its acquisition of Lanteris Space Systems in January 2026, the company has been extending resources across data processing networks and communications infrastructure. The recent acquisitions of COMSAT and Goonhilly Earth Station, which together operate 44 antennas, also fueled the ongoing bullish momentum. With a recent award, Intuitive Machines also expands into a new segment for IM 300.

Momentum Building on Recent Satellite Platform Wins
Intuitive Machines recently received authorization to proceed on a multi-satellite communications infrastructure program with an anticipated value exceeding $600 million. This lends validation to the company’s proprietary IM 1300 platform for large-scale procurements covering multiple spacecraft.
It also expanded its IM 300 modular, high-power satellite platform into a new customer market segment, after being awarded a contract to develop two IM 300 series satellite platforms for an undisclosed customer. The new award builds on the company’s existing order momentum. Intuitive Machines reported a record $1.8 billion backlog at the end of Q2 2026. This $1.8 billion backlog looks impressive, but how quickly can Intuitive Machines turn those contracts into revenue?
Execution Risks Loom
A record $1.8 billion backlog carries risks around the conversion schedules of the underlying orders. This especially applies to the large-scale, multi-year programs including the $600 million satellite award. In regards to its broader customer base for this IM 300 program, scaling and execution risks will persist, as the company faces tight schedules for delivery of a higher-power payload configuration.
A shift in business mix, though encouraging, does lead to uncertainties tied with government budget priorities, policy changes, and procurement delays. National security space, which largely depends on government contracts, now contributes roughly 30% to the topline compared to just 3% a year ago, fueling such risk. Investors cannot ignore how Intuitive Machines is showing encouraging signs across all segments.
What Do The Valuation Numbers Say
The stock seems to have lost its way since a late 2025 rally. It closed at $14.11 on October 1, reflecting a decline from its late-2025 levels. This leaves Intuitive Machines’ market capitalization at around $2.45 billion, which is roughly 5 times the company’s trailing revenue. The company has been able to deliver triple-digit revenue growth. That is exactly what investors are currently paying for, instead of the current negative earnings.
Profitability is the weak spot for the company, as it has delivered -18.10% in operating margins and a net margin of -26.64%. Additionally, a -30.77% return on equity underscores the company’s profitability challenges.

Way Forward
The company carries a strong operational momentum into the second half of the year. This follows an impressive second quarter, which was marked with robust execution trends across spacecraft production programs, omnibus multidisciplinary engineering services, commercial lunar payload services, and near space network services. With full-year topline figures forecasted between $900 million and $1 billion, the management has maintained its 2026 outlook, along with positive adjusted EBITDA expectations. The key test ahead is whether Intuitive Machines can convert its expanding backlog into revenue while improving profitability, as execution delays and cost pressures could undermine the bullish investment case.
