Should You Be Tempted To ‘Sell’ Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (REGN) Stock

Distillate Capital recently released its Q1 2020 Investor Letter, a copy of which you can download below. The Distillate Capital’s U.S. Fundamental Stability & Value (U.S. FSV) strategy posted a return of -19.39% for the quarter (net of fees), outperforming its benchmark, the S&P 500 Index which returned -19.60% in the same quarter. You should check out Distillate Capital’s top 5 stock picks for investors to buy right now, which could be the biggest winners of the stock market crash. There weren’t a lot of funds who could deliver these kinds of returns without shorting the market or using aggressive put options.

In the said letter, Distillate Capital highlighted a few stocks and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) is one of them. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals is a biotechnology company based in New York. Year-to-date, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) stock gained 52.5% and on May 27th it had a closing price of $544.01. Here is what Distillate Capital said:

“The largest reduction in the quarter was Regeneron (REGN), the pharmaceutical company that is working on several Covid-19 treatments. REGN remains attractively valued even after substantially outperforming the market, but is being reduced in weight as its projected normalized free cash flow has lagged its price performance.”

In Q4 2019, the number of bullish hedge fund positions on Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) stock increased by about 6% from the previous quarter (see the chart here), so a number of other hedge fund managers don’t seem to agree with REGN’s downside potential. Our calculations showed that Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) isn’t among the 30 most popular stocks among hedge funds.

The top 10 stocks among hedge funds returned 185% since the end of 2014 and outperformed the S&P 500 Index ETFs by more than 109 percentage points. We know it sounds unbelievable. You have been dismissing our articles about top hedge fund stocks mostly because you were fed biased information by other media outlets about hedge funds’ poor performance.
