Retailers In Holiday Season: Aeropostale Inc (ARO) Down 16%, Macy’s, Inc. (M) Up 2% & Francesca’s Holding Corp (FRAN) up 34%

Retailers are supposed to be feasting in the holiday season, but this not always the case, as some of these retailers get it completely wrong in the holiday season. So we can obviously see a lot of differences between retailers in the holiday season. Some of them win big, whereas some others lose big. CNBC’s Dominic Chu talked on CNBC about Retail winners and losers in the holiday season. Some of these retailers include Aeropostale Inc (NYSE:ARO), Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (NYSE:ANF), Macy’s, Inc. (NYSE:M), Nordstrom, Inc. (NYSE:JWN), TJX Companies Inc (NYSE:TJX), Ross Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ:ROST), DSW Inc. (NYSE:DSW) and Francesca’s Holding Corp (NASDAQ:FRAN).

Francesca's Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:FRAN)

Chu looked at the uptrend and downtrend in some of the retail stocks for the past one month, which covers majority of the holiday season. He pointed out that Teen Retailers like Aeropostale Inc (NYSE:ARO) and Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (NYSE:ANF) has been the biggest loser among the retailers. Particularly, Aeropostale Inc (NYSE:ARO) has lost more than 22% in the last one month.

Chu said that the big box stores or the anchor type stores like Macy’s, Inc. (NYSE:M) and Nordstrom, Inc. (NYSE:JWN) did not lost or gain much out of the holiday season. Macy’s, Inc. (NYSE:M) just gained 2% in the entire holiday season.

Next comes the off-price stores like TJX Companies Inc (NYSE:TJX) and Ross Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ:ROST), which gained a bit more than anchor type stores in the holiday season. TJX Companies Inc (NYSE:TJX) gained around 6% and Ross Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ:ROST) gained around 13%.

Finally he talked about the specialty retailers like DSW Inc. (NYSE:DSW) and Francesca’s Holding Corp (NASDAQ:FRAN), which gained big in the holiday season. Particularly, Francesca’s Holding Corp (NASDAQ:FRAN) has gained around a whopping 34% in the holiday season.

“[…] and then you take a look at the real standouts. Some […] specialty niche retailers like DSW, the shoe front up 13% and Francesca’s, mostly girls retailers. Its up about 34%. Now this is the stock that’s below a billion dollars in market cap and it has taken a beating over the past year,” Chu said.

He added that Francesca’s Holding Corp (NASDAQ:FRAN) has lost big during the last year, despite this some investors kept hope on the stock and are reaping the rewards.
