Google Maps for iPhone: Google’s Maps App Off to Hot Start on the Apple App Store

Google Maps for iPhone: As we discussed last week, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Maps is now available (as of December 13, 2012) for the iPhone via the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store.

Users have been begging for this app since Apple decided to replace it as the standard map with its own product.

So, how is the app performing? The short answer is simple: better than most could have expected.

According to a recent Google+ post by Jeff Huber, Google’s senior vice president of Commerce and Local, the app has received “more than 10 million downloads in less than 48 hours after release.”

Huber added:

We’re excited for the positive reception of Google Maps for iPhone around the world. Congratulations to the Maps Team on the recognition for the passion and hard work they poured into it, for this release and over the last 7+ years.

Of the more than 10 million downloads, there have been 20,449 customer ratings at the time of publication. With a total rating of 4.5/5 stars, it is safe to say that the Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Maps app has been a huge hit thus far.

After reviewing some of the many comments left by pleased customers, a few of the most talked about features include:

– Clean interface

– Voice guided directions, for improved safety

– Interior photos of 100,000+ businesses

– Live traffic information

– Local reviews and ratings of establishments including restaurants, entertainment venues and more

For the sake of iPhone users all over the world, it is nice to see that the Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Maps app is now available via the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store. Early indications show that it is going to be one of the most popular apps of all-time.
