comScore Media Metrix: comScore is well known the world over for being a leader in the measurement of the digital world. Fortunately, the company has decided to take things one step further starting this month. With the help of its Media Metrix Multi-Platform tool, the company can offer “unduplicated accounting of audience size and demographics that reflects today’s multi-platform digital media environment” spanning a variety of web properties including those associated with Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).

One of the most exciting components of the comScore Media Metrix Multi-Platform is its Top 50 Digital Media Property Ranking. Here is a brief excerpt from the company, explaining what the list is all about:

“Multi-platform audience measurement immediately changes the established view of the digital landscape, with media properties’ audience sizes increasing, in addition to changes occurring within content category rankings.”

Each of the companies on the top 50 list are listed complete with information in these categories: total digital population, desktop, mobile, mobile only, and mobile audience incremental % to desktop.

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)As you begin to review the list, you will see many familiar names. As noted above, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) were all in the top 10. See our breakdown of some of these companies here.

In addition to total digital population, don’t overlook the other categories of data including the greatest incremental percentage gains from mobile. For example, Groupon had a 223 percent gain followed by Zynga at 211 percent and Pandora at 183 percent.

As you can see, mobile usage is on the rise and with some web properties the growth is outrageous.

If you don’t think you can learn anything by reviewing these statistics from February 2013, take this information from comScore into consideration:

“The average property within the Top 100 increased its audience size by an average of 38 percent, and 19 of those properties had incremental mobile (i.e. smartphone and tablet) audiences that extended the reach of their desktop audiences by at least 50 percent.”

In other words, the companies on this list are growing rapidly. While some are performing better than others, all of them are picking up steam.

Now that you have a better idea of what the comScore Media Metrix Multi-Platform tool is all about and how some of the companies are performing, let’s take a closer look at the top 20.
