Apple Patents: Are you the type of person who likes to keep tabs on the patents that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), as well as other tech companies, is applying for? If so, we have a story for you today that is quite interesting in Apple’s corner.

Apple Inc (AAPL)Patently Apple recently brought it to our attention that “the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that reveals the nuts and bolts behind Apple’s Virtual University known as iTunes U.”

From systems to implementation of online learning applications to intuitive GUIs, you may be amazed at how much you can learn by simply reading through these two Apple patents.

If you are interested in these Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) patent applications, you don’t have to look any further than these two pages on the official US Patent & Trademark Office website:

Content Authoring Application

If you want to learn more about iTunes U, directly from Apple, you can do so by visiting this official page on the company’s website.

Electronic Learning Application Abstract

To get a better idea of what this patent is all about, here is the abstract from the official patent application:

“Systems, methods, and computer program products for accessing e-learning courses from an online resource are disclosed. Graphical user interfaces (GUIs) allow students to enroll in online courses or collections of other media (e.g., video files, presentations). The courses can include in-session and self-paced courses. The courses can be delivered over a network to any number and types of student operated devices. An e-learning application running on the student-operated device provides various user interface elements that allow the student to browse, select, enroll and interact with online courses. In some implementations, the GUIs provide a display object (e.g., a virtual spiral-bound notebook) that includes tabs that can be selected by the student to navigate pages of an online course to access information, materials, posts and notes.”

As you can see, this patent covers quite a bit ranging from the use of graphical user interfaces to the way the courses are delivered to students on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s platform.

Content Authoring Application Abstract

This patent is more about Apple’s potential authoring of e-learning courses, including how through the use of GUIs, instructors “can create in-session and self-paced courses that can be delivered over a network to any number of student operated client devices.”

More from the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) patent:

“This disclosure describes systems, methods, and computer program products for authoring content for e-learning courses, such as network-enabled (e.g., Web-based) education courses. Graphical user interfaces (GUIs) provide an instructor with user interface elements to manage online course content. Using the GUIs, the instructor can create in-session and self-paced courses that can be delivered over a network to any number of student operated client devices. The instructor is provided a suite of editing tools that can be used to create and edit pages of content for a course, including adding links and multimedia, information pages, posts and course materials. The GUI can include a side bar that can display descriptors that can be used by the instructor to navigate pages of the course.”

Now that you have a basic understanding of what each of Apple’s latest patents bring to the table, there is a good chance you want to learn more.

Rather than spend all your time sifting through the finer details of each patent, we have published a slideshow via Patently Apple’s uploaded images, that describes Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s process in pictures.
