6 Best Places to Visit in Lithuania Before You Die

3. Kaunas

The second biggest city in Lithuania, Kaunas rests at the meeting point of two of the nation’s biggest river, Nemunas and Neris. The magnificent Pazaislis Monastery that was built between the 17th and 18th centuries is an important attraction. What makes the city of Kaunas very unique is its distinctive heritage. It is in this location that Russia constructed a first class fortress, which is still visible till today. In the town itself you can also see other influences of the powerful Russian military with derelict barracks and warehouses.
