Syria has both a high level of political instability and crime. When it comes to crime alone, Syria has the 10th highest crime rate in the world at a score of 67.42. The country plunged into a full fledged civil war in 2011 when the Assad Government viciously cracked down on protests during the Arab Spring. Years of civil war has left the country battered with various factions in control of different parts of the country. As such, it’s the operating ground of various terrorist organizations like Alqaeda, ISIS and Hezbollah which are committing gross human rights abuses in addition to the Syrian Government.
