Ethnic stereotypes are usually generalizing, and they are in most cases well wrong. Many stereotypes started as jokes, and later everyone stopped getting the joke and thought it was the truth. But what is with that small percentage of stereotypes that are actually true? We dug in and found 11 common ethnic stereotypes that are actually true, so you don’t have to. Of course, when we talk about the truthiness of a stereotype, we take into consideration that the stereotype doesn’t apply to every member of some ethnic group, just that there is a large number of members that fit the description.
We began our search for the true ethnic stereotypes on the internet including National stereotype that gathered all the stereotypes in one place. 11. All Scandinavians Have Blonde Hair
Well not all of them, but large percent is. The tall, blonde Swedish boys and girls are not a myth. It is estimated that, in the Scandinavian region, 80% of the population is blonde.

And now you will say: “What about Yao Ming?”. Well, although there are some exceptions, the truth is that people from Asia indeed have a small height. When we take into consideration the average height of the countries in the world, from 20 countries that have the smallest average height, 16 are in Asia.

9. People With African Background Are Good At Sport
You must have heard about this one, or thought of it while watching NBA. There are facts that indeed support this stereotype. For example, there are only a few people besides these that can run 100 meters bellow the 10 seconds. Also, the large majority of NBA players, around 80%, are members of this group.

8. Germans Are Crazy About The Beer And Sausages
When we look at the Oktoberfest, it is a bit hard to doubt this one. Also, Germany has the oldest brewery and a law about the beer that determines which ingredients can be used while making it, and don’t get us started about the Wurst.
7. Americans Are Fat
You must have thought that this is a complete rubbish, watching all those Hollywood movies that depict hot actors and actresses. Well, we disagree. It turns out that 68% of the American population has more weight than they should. If this is not enough, just picture that every year there is over 60 billion dollars spent on weight loss programs.

For people that have invented the past, it is hard not to eat it. They make the best pasta in the world, and you can’t say you tried pasta until you have eaten Italian one. Also, at least one meal includes some kind of pasta in Italy.
2. Vodka Is Everything For Russians
Let’s get out the numbers. It is estimated that in 1921, 89 % percent of all consumed alcohol in Russia was vodka. In 2001, the number was smaller but still impressive 70%. One of the reasons can be that they need something to keep them warm during the long winter.
