9. San Francisco Metro Area

Total illegal immigrant population in the city: 240,000

San Francisco has a lot of sanctuaries including San Francisco, which has maintained roughly the same number of around a quarter million illegal immigrants.

Atlanta has maintained a steady illegal immigrant population of around 275,000 people over the past decade.

7. Chicago Metro Area

Chicago has always been quite liberal and protective of its illegal population, even though the population has been reduced by 140,000 people over the last several years. In June 2020, the mayor of Chicago even announced a fund which would provide $1,000 to each family who did not receive federal support for relief against the coronavirus and this also includes illegal immigrants.

You might be surprised to see illegal immigrants wanting to reside in a city which has several federal agencies, including one solely created to deport such immigrants but over the past decade Washington D.C. has actually seen the largest increase in illegal immigrants, adding 55,000 residents in this time.

5. Miami Metro Area

Miami a decade ago would’ve topped the list of cities invaded by illegal immigrants but it has seen an outflux of around 90,000 illegal immigrants over the past decade to drop down to fifth place.

While it may belong to one of the most conservative cities in the world, Dallas in Texas has seen consistently 475,000 illegal residents within the city, which was surprising for me as I’d assumed that the city would be more opposed to weeding out illegal immigrants and blocking their arrival.

3. Houston Metro Area

Houston may be located in Texas but the city has seen a lot of illegal immigrants which have stayed consistent over the past decade, with the number staying steady at around half a million.

2. Los Angeles Metro Area

We told you that California is one of the biggest sanctuary states in the US, which is why it’s had a lot of entries in the 20 cities invaded by illegal immigrants, and Los Angeles is no exception. The city is known for hosting the most glamorous cities in the US, but also has a major illegal immigrant population, with 35% of the total population being immigrants, of which a significant percentage is not naturalized. Los Angeles used to have a population of illegal immigrants significantly greater than a million but this population decreased by 325,000 over the past decade to take it to less than a million.

1. New York Metro Area

Topping the list of 10 cities invaded by illegal immigrants is the New York Metro Area, which is now also the only US city to have more than 1 million illegal immigrants. This is despite a fall of 375,000 illegal immigrants over the past decade, showcasing just how important a sanctuary New York is. Approximately 15% of the total immigrant population is illegal, and since its reputation as one of the most multi-cultural cities in not just the US but the world, has been attracting immigrants for decades. In fact it is estimated that 25% of all New York residents are immigrants, and immigrants are spread across the education spectrum in the city.
