9. County Longford

County Longford lies in the province of Leinster and at the mid-northern top of the Republic of Ireland. Housing prices of €100,237 ($113,398) are lowest in the country, but it rains a little bit more than ideal – 1,047 mm (41.2 in). The median annual temperature of 9.6 °C (49.3 °F) is somewhat on par with the rest of the country. Apart from Longford, which is a town of some 10,000 inhabitants and an obvious choice for retirement, one of the smallest Irish counties offers optional choices like Lanesborough-Ballyleague, Ballymahon, etc.

8. County Wexford

County Wexford in south-eastern Leinster has a long Irish and Celtic Sea coastlines. It also has a ferry connection with Great Britain (Wales) over St. George’s Channel. Median housing price of €165,422 ($187,142) might seem like a little bit too much, but everything has its pros and cons and so does County Wexford in terms of retirement plans. Annual temperature of 10.1 °C (50.2 °F) is more pleasant than elsewhere and so are 879 mm (34.6 in) of rainfall a year. Wexford is a nice town to spend retirement years and so are pretty much all coastal towns and villages.
