QUALCOMM (QCOM) Offers AI, Automotive, and Edge-Computing Growth Potential, Ariel Global Fund Says

Ariel Investments, an investment management company, released its “Ariel Global Fund” Q3 2026 investor letter. The Fund declined in the third quarter of 2026 as renewed geopolitical tensions, higher oil prices, and elevated interest rates contributed to uneven performance across global markets. The Fund’s Investor Class returned -1.98%, underperforming the MSCI ACWI Index, which gained 1.60%, and the MSCI ACWI Value Index, which advanced 3.75%. Stock selection in consumer discretionary, consumer staples, and health care contributed positively, while information technology and industrial holdings, along with overweight exposure to utilities, detracted from performance. The portfolio’s results reflected divergent company-specific developments: strong software demand and AI-related opportunities supported some holdings, while concerns about interest-rate sensitivity, near-term margins, and semiconductor-sector expectations pressured others. Looking ahead, Ariel expects market dispersion to widen as investors become more selective and capital becomes more expensive. The firm remains focused on businesses with durable demand, competitive advantages, and improving earnings power, while taking profits when valuations approach intrinsic value and directing capital toward opportunities that the market may be underestimating. Ariel Global Fund stated the following regarding QUALCOMM, Inc. in its Q3 2026 investor letter:

“We added leading semiconductor and technology licensing company Qualcomm Inc. to the portfolio this quarter, reflecting our view that the company’s growth opportunities extend well beyond smartphones. While wireless remains a core franchise, Qualcomm has successfully expanded into automotive, edge computing and AI-enabled applications, creating multiple long-term growth drivers. We are particularly encouraged by its emerging role in AI infrastructure, where its power-efficient architecture is well suited to the growing demand for lower-cost, energy-efficient computing. Early traction with hyperscale customers reinforces this opportunity. Meanwhile, improving smartphone fundamentals and the adoption of on-device AI are increasing semiconductor content and supporting a more favorable upgrade cycle. Under CEO Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm has broadened its addressable market and strengthened its competitive position across several attractive end markets. We believe the shares remain attractively valued relative to the company’s earnings power and diversification potential.”
