Is Kinetik (KNTK) a Good or Bad Investment After Growing Earnings 65%?

Growth and income rarely share a ticker, and paying a premium multiple for both rests entirely on one basin.

Kinetik Holdings Inc. (NYSE:KNTK) closed at $55.30 on October 16. The stock has returned 18.9% during the last 6 months, compared to a 10.5% return for the Insider Monkey Billionaire Index and 9.3% for the State Street SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust.

Kinetik Holdings pays a high yield and grew earnings quickly last quarter. Income and fast growth do not usually arrive together.

It gathers and processes natural gas in the Permian Basin and is one of the smaller midstream companies. Fast growth at that size normally comes with a price attached, and the price here is the unusual part.

What Is Going Right:

Earnings grew 65.40% against revenue up 36.30% in the latest three months. Profit rising faster than sales points to gathering systems filling up, and a gathering system that fills costs very little more to run.

The market has noticed. The shares are up 50.89% over the past year and sit close to their high, which is not where most of the sector has spent this year.

What Could Go Wrong:

Everything here depends on the Permian. Kinetik does not have the geographic reach its bigger rivals do, so a slowdown in one basin is a slowdown in the whole business.

At 136.57% of equity, the borrowing is typical of its peers, but it carries more weight at this size. A small company with sector-normal leverage has less room to absorb a bad year than a large one with the same ratio.

Good or Bad After the Run:

Kinetik trades at 21.41 times what analysts expect next year, a full price for a company this size. It yields 5.86% on top of that.

That is the tension in one line. A buyer is paying a premium multiple for growth while collecting an income yield, and those two things do not normally sit together. Owning it means betting that both can hold.

Conclusion:

The growth is real, and the yield is real, and paying a premium multiple for both at once is the part worth thinking about. What makes it defensible is that the profit is growing faster than the revenue, which is what happens when pipe that is already built starts carrying more. What makes it risky is that all of it sits in one basin at a size that leaves little margin for a bad year. Watch Permian volumes, because there is nothing else holding this up.

Market Sentiment:

Kinetik Holdings Inc. was held by 29 hedge funds with a combined stake value of about $308 million at the end of Q2 2026 in the Insider Monkey database. This is up from 25 hedge fund holders in the previous quarter.
