Over the past few years, space and satellites companies have gone from being considered speculative, meme stocks to an investable category. Businesses in the sector are generating solid revenue and are receiving high-value government and defense contracts that are closely tied to their growth stories.

The biggest story of the year for the sector was Musk’s rocket and spacecraft manufacturer’s IPO in June, which was the biggest ever, making it one of most valuable companies in the world with a market cap of $1.77 trillion at the time.

However, the ride so far has been rough. As of the close on November 6, the stock is down by more than 36% from the post-IPO peak in June, representing a decline of 10% since the Nasdaq debut.

This is a reflection of the sector on a whole. Stocks have remained volatile in 2026, surging to peaks during the first half of the year amid optimism around AI and upcoming IPOs, followed by a sharp pullback during the back half of the year.

That said, the macro backdrop offers reasons to be enthusiastic about. Morgan Stanley anticipates the global space industry to grow from $350 billion in size to touch the $1 trillion mark by 2040, as governments across the world pump hefty amounts into next-generation space infrastructure every year.

With this context in mind, let’s now head over to the list of the best satellite and space stocks billionaires are buying.

Methodology

We went through ETFs with exposure to satellite and space companies and our previous articles on the subject to get a pool of space stocks. From there, we picked the top 10 stocks with the highest number of billionaires having a stake in them, as per Insider Monkey’s Q2 2026 proprietary database of billionaires’ stock holdings. Where two or more stocks were tied on billionaire sentiment, we used the dollar value of billionaire holdings as a tiebreaker between them. Additionally, we also included data on hedge fund holdings in these companies as of Q2 2026 to provide further insight into investor interest.

Why are we interested in the stocks that hedge funds pile into? The reason is simple: our research has shown that we can outperform the market by imitating the top stock picks of the best hedge funds. Insider Monkey’s quarterly newsletter strategy selects 14 small-cap and large-cap stocks every quarter and has returned 612% since May 2014, beating its benchmark by 375 percentage points (see more details here).

10 Best Satellite and Space Stocks Billionaires Are Buying:

10. Redwire Corporation (NYSE:RDW)

Number of Billionaires: 13

Number of Hedge Funds: 24

Redwire Corporation (NYSE:RDW) is an integrated space and defense technology company focused on advanced technologies. According to Insider Monkey, 13 billionaires held a stake in the company at the end of the second quarter.

A major appeal for investors is that it sells into both markets. Earlier in the year, the company acquired drone-maker Edge Autonomy to bolster its defense exposure.

The stock’s price is another reason. RDW’s shares are down nearly 70% since the highs of May due to a mix of financial and market factors. Patients investors may see the business trading at a discount, especially as the backlog continues to grow.

On the space side, Redwire Corporation recently secured a contract from Axiom Space to build and deliver two Roll-Out Solar Array (ROSA) wings for its second space station module. The company was also chosen to build ROSA winds for Axiom Space’s first space station module.

On November 4, the space infrastructure company reported financial results for Q3. Backlog increased 75% year-over-year to $619.7 million. Diluted EPS came in at $(0.09), compared to $(0.29) in the prior year’s period. Gross margin expanded from 16.3% to 32.3%. Revenue was up 5.4% to $109 million, but missed estimates by $17 million, which dragged shares down following the announcement.

9. Viasat, Inc. (NASDAQ:VSAT)

Number of Billionaires: 15

Number of Hedge Funds: 50

As of the close of June 30, 15 billionaires held a stake in Viasat, Inc. (NASDAQ:VSAT). The count is unchanged from the previous two quarters, reflecting steady conviction.

The global communications company serves two segments: communication services and defense and advanced technologies. As a result, it benefits from multiple revenue streams as it sells to government and defense customers, fixed broadband users, as well as airlines and ships that require connectivity in motion.

The stock has several growth catalysts. In September this year, Viasat, Inc. announced that its ViaSat-3 (VS3) F2 satellites had entered service across the Americas, adding to the company’s network capacity. Another important factor is also the ongoing growth in the defense and advanced technologies segment.

However, Q2 2027 results announced on November 5 have left investors disappointed. While revenue for the quarter increased 3% year-over-year to $1.2 billion, net loss worsened to $129 million from $61 million in Q2 2026, due to higher R&D expenses, raised provision for income taxes, and higher stock compensation expense.

Awards for the quarter totalled $1.1 billion, declining 24% from the prior year’s period. The company generated $78 million in free cash flow, which was up 14% year-over-year. VSAT’s shares crashed 9% on November 5 following the announcement.
