Why Thieves Hate Google Inc (GOOGL)’s New Android

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is making the lives of some people harder. More specifically, they’re making it very hard for thieves to profit off of stolen Android smartphones which is a great thing if you ask us.

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) announced the latest version of Android on Monday and as Fortune notes, thieves would prefer if people did not get this version of the mobile operating system

Among the features the technology giant unveiled with Android 5.1 Lollipop is this feature called Device Protection. What makes it more secure than previous systems of theft prevention is that the device will need the person holding the phone to log-in using the Google account associated with the phone to unlock the device.

Previous systems in place were often circumvented by thieves by doing a factory reset of the phone. Now, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has designed and deployed an anti-theft system that requires the user to log in using the associated Google account even after a factory reset, making it harder for thieves to earn from stealing smartphones and tablets.

Essentially, stolen phones and tablets with the Google account login information become useless. Thieves would now also have to steal the Google account information of the people they are stealing from.

New updates to Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android includes stability and performance upgrades, support for multiple SIM cards and high definition voice on compatible phones. There have been many dual-SIM smartphones in the market but this capability was implemented by manufacturers. Now, dual-SIM is native to Android with version 5.1.

Other updates includes the ability to join Wi-Fi networks and control paired Bluetooth devices directly from quick settings.
