Top Q2 Earnings Surprises: 21 Stocks That Beat Wall Street Estimates Yesterday

The second quarter of the year is considered an exceptionally strong period for US companies. In the S&P 500 alone, the latest FactSet data showed that year-on-year earnings grew 50.4 percent, as compared with only 23.1 percent expected at the end of June. If that rate holds, it would be the index’s strongest earnings growth since the second quarter of 2021 and its seventh consecutive quarter of double-digit earnings rally.

FactSet’s latest figures put S&P 500’s revenue growth for the second quarter at 15 percent, above the 12.2 percent estimate at the end of the quarter. This is important because it indicates that the earnings expansion is not entirely a result of accounting gains or cost-cutting; companies are also generating stronger sales.

The strength of the quarter is also reflected in the breadth of companies reporting results. On August 12, over 450 firms posted their second-quarter results, with 21 of them delivering exceptional performance.
