These Are the Small-Caps David Nierenberg Thinks Are Misunderstood and About To Soar

Nierenberg initiated a position in C&J Energy Services, Ltd. (NYSE:CJES) during the first quarter of 2012. The stock has slumped by more than 36% since then. The fund held some 1.36 million shares of C&J Energy Services, Ltd. (NYSE:CJES) valued at $15.19 million at the end of the first quarter of 2015. That quarter was a particularly hard one for C&J Energy, considering the prevalent low utilization levels as oil companies continued to limit their operations given the low oil prices. However, C&J Energy Services, Ltd. (NYSE:CJES)’s cost cutting measures bore fruit and the company managed to complete its transformative transaction with Nabors Industries. Among the billionaires that we track, three had a total investment of $47.53 million in C&J Energy Services, Ltd. (NYSE:CJES) at the end of March. Ken Griffin is one of them, as his Citadel Investment Group held about 2.24 million shares valued at $24.97 million.

At the end of the first quarter Nierenberg held about 1.51 million shares of Rosetta Stone Inc (NYSE:RST) valued at $11.52 million. The holding represented 23.60% of is fund’s portfolio value and 6.80% of the company’s outstanding stock. So far this year, Rosetta Stone Inc (NYSE:RST)’s stock has slid by nearly 13%. John W. Rogers‘ Ariel Investments is the largest shareholder of Rosetta Stone Inc (NYSE:RST) within our database, owning some 4.26 million shares of the company valued at $32.38 million.
