Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY) – yes, otherwise known as BlackBerry – has great affection for the Thailand marketplace. It is one of those very large but emerging markets that have gained so much interest from tech companies – markets like China, India and Brazil. But now BlackBerry, which has had a modest if not spectacular following in Thailand, is launching a new initative in the country with the goal of becoming the No. 1 smartphone company in the country by 2016.

Research in Motion Ltd. says it will implement three strategies with this initiative – develop handsets that are innovative across every price point in the market, develop strong partnerships with the several wireless carriers in the country and would work with local application developers to bring a native touch to the BlackBerry mobile app experience.
