BlackBerry Z10 Sales: Research In Motion BlackBerry Z10 Sales Update

Research in Motion Ltd. (BBRY)BlackBerry Z10 Sales: Earlier today, we brought you this story: Research In Motion Ltd (BBRY) BlackBerry Fiscal 2013 Results. In short, we talked more about revenue results for quarter four as well as fiscal 2013 as a whole. Despite the fact that Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) saw a decrease in revenue last year, the company is hoping for a better fiscal 2014. One of the primary reasons for optimism is the early success of the company’s Z10 smartphone.

With the help of the Z10 smartphone, there is reason to believe that BlackBerry may have better days ahead. The company plans on putting a lot of time and money into its BlackBerry 10 operating system, as noted in an official press release:

“The Company will be increasing its marketing investment in the first quarter of fiscal 2014 in support of the global launch of BlackBerry 10. Including the anticipated 50% sequential increase in marketing spending, the Company believes it will approach breakeven financial results in the first quarter based on its lower cost base, more efficient supply chain, and improved hardware margins.”

According to an article by CNET, BlackBerry Z10 sales were strong during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2013. The company says it sold one million units during that time period, which only includes sales from “early launch markets.” Even more exciting is the fact that results from the United States are not included.

As we noted in our piece earlier today, Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) sold six million smartphones and 370,000 PlayBook tablets.

Are these sales numbers on par with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone and iPad, for example? Of course not. That being said, BlackBerry needs to worry about positive progress as opposed to what others are doing – and it appears that things are moving in the right direction at the present time.
