Oracle Corporation (ORCL) vs. Amazon.com (AMZN): Which AI Infrastructure Giant Is Better Positioned for Long-Term Growth?

On August 13, Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) and Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s Web Services announced a major expansion of their strategic collaboration. The marquee news was the general availability of Oracle Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure via Oracle AI Database@AWS. The joint offering brings Exadata-grade performance and pay-per-use economics to enterprise workloads across 22 AWS regions worldwide, enabling customers to run core Oracle databases right alongside AWS analytics and generative AI services without moving or duplicating data.

While the partnership reflects a shared goal of accelerating enterprise cloud migrations, the two tech titans are approaching the AI arms race from distinctly different financial positions.

Comparing Financials: Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL)’s High-Leverage Growth vs. Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s Massive Cash Engine

Comparing Oracle’s full-year FY 2026 results against Amazon’s Q2 2026 performance highlights two contrasting financial scales and operational strategies.

For fiscal year 2026, Oracle Corporation generated $67.4 billion in total revenue, up 17% year-over-year, while cloud infrastructure revenues surged 77% to $18.1 billion. Full-year non-GAAP operating income reached $28.9 billion, and non-GAAP EPS rose 27% to $7.63. Driven by massive AI contracts, Oracle’s Remaining Performance Obligations (RPO) skyrocketed 363% to $638 billion. However, funding this infrastructure expansion required $55.63 billion in capital expenditures, leaving free cash flow at negative $23.7 billion and pushing Oracle to raise $48 billion in combined debt and equity financing.

Amazon.com, Inc. operates at an entirely different magnitude. In Q2 2026 alone, net sales rose 20% to $200.6 billion. Operating income jumped 43% to $27.5 billion, with AWS contributing $16.6 billion as cloud segment revenue grew 37% year-over-year to $42.2 billion. Trailing twelve-month operating cash flow reached $161.4 billion. While Amazon also spent heavily on AI infrastructure, pushing free cash flow into a minor $7.6 billion outflow, its massive retail and advertising cash engines provide a significantly stronger financial cushion.

Ultimately, AMZN stands out with stronger overall financials. It generates massive self-sustaining cash flow across diversified segments, whereas ORCL is relying far more on debt and equity dilution to build out its hardware.

Bull and Bear Cases

Oracle Corporation’s bull case is supported by surging demand for enterprise AI database solutions and multi-cloud partnerships with AWS, providing significant multi-year revenue visibility. The company’s $638 billion remaining performance obligation (RPO) backlog further strengthens its growth outlook. However, the bear case centers on heavy data center capital expenditures, which are weighing on near-term free cash flow and could require increased leverage or equity issuance while putting pressure on short-term margins.

Amazon.com, Inc.’s bull case is driven by accelerating AWS growth, which increased 37% year over year, alongside expanding operating margins of 13.7%. The company’s leading positions across cloud computing, e-commerce, and digital advertising provide multiple avenues for sustained growth. On the downside, escalating capital expenditures on AI infrastructure could continue to pressure free cash flow, while retail margins remain vulnerable to broader consumer weakness and macroeconomic pressures.

Insider Monkey’s Hedge Fund Data Analysis

Hedge fund data from Q1 2026 highlights a notable difference in institutional conviction between Oracle and Amazon. Oracle was held by 115 hedge funds in Q1 2026, up slightly from 111 in Q4 2025. Among its major holders, Fisher Asset Management, led by Ken Fisher, held 13.26 million shares valued at approximately $1.94 billion, representing a 39% increase in its position. Citadel Investment Group, led by Ken Griffin, held 10.61 million call options valued at approximately $1.56 billion, with activity increasing 14%.

Amazon maintained significantly broader institutional support, with 353 hedge funds holding the stock in Q1 2026, although this was down from 381 in Q4 2025. Arrowstreet Capital held 40.35 million shares valued at approximately $9.62 billion after increasing its position by 24%. Fisher Asset Management also maintained a substantial position of 34.98 million shares worth approximately $8.34 billion, representing a 3% increase in activity.

Conclusion: What Investors Should Watch Next

While Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) offers explosive upside via its backlog and multi-cloud expansion, Amazon provides a far more fortress-like balance sheet paired with industry-leading scale. Moving forward, investors should watch whether Oracle can translate its massive $638 billion RPO backlog into profitable revenue fast enough to offset its growing debt burden. For Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), the key test will be whether AWS can sustain its re-accelerated 37% growth trajectory while continuing to deliver strong operating margin expansion.

While we acknowledge the risk and potential of AMZN as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and doing so within a shorter time frame. When Jeff Bezos said that one breakthrough technology would shape Amazon’s destiny, even Wall Street’s biggest analysts were caught off guard.

Fast forward a year and Amazon’s new CEO Andy Jassy described generative AI as a “once-in-a-lifetime” technology that is already being used across Amazon to reinvent customer experiences.

At the 8th Future Investment Initiative conference, Elon Musk predicted that by 2040 there would be at least 10 billion humanoid robots, with each priced between $20,000 and $25,000.

Do the math. According to Musk, this technology could be worth $250 trillion by 2040.

Put another way, that’s roughly equal to:

  • 175 Teslas
  • 107 Amazons
  • 140 Metas
  • 84 Googles
  • 65 Microsofts
  • And 55 Nvidias

And here’s the wild part — this $250 trillion wave isn’t tied to one company, but to an entire ecosystem of AI innovators set to reshape the global economy.

It’s a leap so massive, it could reshape how businesses, governments, and consumers operate worldwide.

Even if that $250 trillion figure sounds ambitious, major firms like PwC and McKinsey still see AI unlocking multi-trillion-dollar potential.

How could anything be worth that much?

The answer lies in a breakthrough so powerful it’s redefining how humanity works, learns, and creates.

And this breakthrough has already set off a frenzy among hedge funds and Wall Street’s top investors.

What most investors don’t realize is that one under-owned company holds the key to this $250 trillion revolution.

In fact, Verge argues this company’s supercheap AI technology should concern rivals.

Before I reveal the details, let’s talk about how some of the richest people on the planet are positioning themselves.

  • Bill Gates sees artificial intelligence as the “biggest technological advance in my lifetime,” more transformative than the internet or personal computer, capable of improving healthcare, education, and addressing climate change.
  • Larry Ellison — through Oracle, is spending billions on Nvidia chips and partnering with Cohere to embed generative AI across Oracle’s cloud and apps.
  • Warren Buffett — not known for tech hype — says this breakthrough could have a ‘hugely beneficial social impact.

When billionaires from Silicon Valley to Wall Street line up behind the same idea — you know it’s worth paying attention to.

Even as we admire what Tesla, Nvidia, Alphabet, and Microsoft have built, we believe an even greater opportunity lies elsewhere…

But the real story isn’t Nvidia — it’s a much smaller company quietly improving the critical technology that makes this entire revolution possible.

And judging by what I’m hearing from both Silicon Valley insiders and Wall Street veterans…

This prediction might not be bold at all:

My name is Inan Dogan. I’m the co-founder and Research Director of Insider Monkey. I have an important message for you today.

Since March 2017, my stock picks have returned 16.5% annually. Today, I’ve found an opportunity even bigger than my British American Tobacco call.

Two years ago, Wall Street wrote off British American Tobacco (BTI) as a “melting ice cube.” The stock had crashed 40% from its peak, and consensus said the business was dying.

We looked under the cover and realized they were wrong.

We alerted our subscribers, and BTI returned 90% in just 16 months.

Now if you had invested just $10,000 in BTI in June 2024, you’d be sitting on $19,000 in October 2025.

Today, we have identified a nearly identical pattern in a digital-first giant trading at $3.

While the market panics over a surface-level revenue decline, our PhD-led research shows management has actually surgically cut $100 million in waste to focus on high-margin growth.

This pattern is a hallmark of our 16.5% annual return track record. The current opportunity offers a 400% upside potential—dwarfing even our 90% BTI return.
