Jonathan Auerbach’s Hound Partners’ Top Stock Picks

In its latest 13F, Jonathan Auerbach’s Hound Partners has reported its holdings as held at the end of the fourth quarter of 2013. The total value of the fund’s equity portfolio amounted to around $1.92 billion in the fourth quarter, down from about $2.01 billion disclosed at the end of the third quarter.

We have selected Hound Partners’ top five holdings in terms of value that the fund held in its equity portfolio at the end of last year.

On the first spot is Valeant Pharmaceuticals Intl Inc (NYSE:VRX). The fund disclosed ownership of 2.13 million shares, with a reported value of $250.22 million. The stake remained unchanged over the quarter. The company develops, manufactures and markets a range of pharmaceutical products.

Second on the list is Carter’s, Inc. (NYSE:CRI), in which Hound Partners owns 2.44 million shares, unchanged over the  quarter, worth $175.24 million

FleetCor Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:FLT) is the fifth-largest holding, in which the fund disclosed holding 1.37 million shares, with a reported value of about 160.79 million. The position was down from 1.60 million shares disclosed at the end of the third quarter. FleetCor Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:FLT) is an independent global provider of specialized payment products and services including fleet cards, food cards, corporate lodging discount cards and other specialized payment services for businesses throughout the world.

W.R. Grace & Co. (NYSE:GRA), which produces and sells specialty chemicals and specialty materials, is on the fourth spot. In the company, Hound Partners owns 1.35 million shares, worth $133.93 million. The position represents a decrease from 1.69 million shares held by the fund at the end of September.

The fifth-largest holding is Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTR), in which the fund reported ownership of 931,000 shares, up from 862,000 shares disclosed at the end of the third quarter. The value of the holding amounts to $127.32 million. Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTR) is a broadband communications company and the fourth-largest cable operator in the United States.
