Apple Acquisition Targets: Do you remember our story from a few days back – Apple Inc. Curved Glass Watch, Like Something from the Future – touching on the possibility of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) offering a futuristic smart watch made of curved glass? If so, it is time for a follow-up to this story.
This time around, we are going to take a closer look at the possibility of Apple acquiring the start-up company Pebble. If you don’t know much about this company, they are the leader in the customizable smartwatch space. In other words, it would make perfect sense for Apple to at least consider the acquisition of the company.
With all that in mind and many rumors swirling, it does not appear that Pebble plans on selling out just yet. And if they don’t, there is no reason to believe that the company is going to shy away from the competition that could be coming from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).
Here is what Eric Migicovsky, co-founder and CEO of Pebble, had to say on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street segment:
“I think we’re in it for the long haul at this point. We’re just at the beginning. We’ve sold 85,000 devices just at the beginning of our company’s life and I think we’ve got a lot more opportunity to see where this plays out right now.”
When asked about a potential acquisition by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) or another company, Migicovsky declined to comment. That being said, he did speak briefly about the interest in the market.
“I think what’s going on in the smartphone space right now is we are seeing more and more devices work with the smartphone and so with the massive market share that Apple has on the smartphone side, seeing other devices connect to the smartphone — almost as like a central part of connection to the Internet — I think it’s a pretty big opportunity.”
Although Apple is always on the lookout for acquisitions, whether or not the Cupertino-based company is serious about Pebble has yet to be seen. On the surface, an acquisition makes sense. Whether or not the two companies ever come to an agreement is another thing entirely.
