How Facebook Inc (FB) Is Involved In Murders and Suicides?

When a popular social media platform  like Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) becomes a significant part of the lives of its subscribers, it is only a matter of time that it gets involved in the darker side of our existence. In a study by Brimingham City University’s Researchers, 48 cases of murders were analysed to see if our beloved Facebook was aiding the perpetrators in their heinous crimes.  In an article on theguardian, Mark Tran shed light on some of the results of this study.

If you are thinking that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) stalkers might have something to do with it, think again, because in most of the cases the killer is often romantically involved with the victim.  In fact, in the 6 type of profiles that the researchers drew for such criminals, sexual intimacy, jealousy and revenge were the recurrent characteristics across these categories.

The only requirement for a murder case to be part of the study was that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has to be involved in some way in the crime. Hence, it could just be a post that a mother posted just before committing suicide along with her children after an argument with her husband, as in the case of LaShanda Armstrong, mentioned by Tran, or when Wayne Forrester murdered his wife in 2008 after learning  from her Facebook posts that she claims to have separated from her husband and is looking to meet other men.

It can be argued that if it wasn’t for Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), the wife wouldn’t have found a platform to disclose her feelings, or even that Forrester wouldn’t be able to find his wife’s intentions that easily. However, the crux of the matter is not that. The psychological profiles of the criminals play a far more significant role in such crimes. It is their willingness to go to extreme ends to take revenge that is in play here.

The researchers correctly said that just as we cannot blame a knife for stabbing, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) shouldn’t be the entity to be blamed here. To be a victim of such crimes also depends on the area you live in. People who have a frail heart and are more concerned about their safety stay away from the most dangerous cities in US.
