Apple Stock History: Apple is ‘Worse Than What People Were Thinking,’ Says Analyst

Apple Stock History: With Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) hitting its 52 week low, while also dragging down all of technology, there are a lot of people throwing ideas around as to what is going to happen next.

CNBC recently spoke with Alex Gauna about Apple; Gauna is a managing director and analyst with JMP Securities.

Apple Inc (AAPL)While nobody can say for certain what is going on with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and what the future holds, Gauna does his best to explain the company’s trajectory and how things could possibly shape up in the days to come.

When asked about his “very, very near term view” Gauna shared the following:

“I think the problem for Apple today is that they’ve got one of their major component providers, Cirrus Logic, negatively talking about inventory build and guiding down pretty hard for the forward quarter.”

Gauna didn’t stop there, instead opting to add this:

“With that kind of an outlook, with a stock that is already under pressure because of eroding gross margin and intensifying competition, I’m not sure that you are going to get a lot of near term relief out of Apple.”

As you can see, Gauna is not under the impression that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is going to break out of its funk anytime in the near future. Not everybody agrees with him, but at this point in time it is hard to argue.

The host of the segment went on to ask Gauna if Cirrus is telling him anything he did not already know or expect. Here was his reply:

“I think the magnitude is worse than what people were thinking because I think you are absolutely right, people were braced for a poor seasonal quarter. But the magnitude of this coupled with the success that Samsung continues to have in the market, have investors very nervous on this stock.”

It is interesting that Gauna took the time to discuss the possibility that Samsung continues to impact Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) stock. We touched on this earlier today, talking about the two companies fighting it out in a “price war battle.”

Do you agree with what Gauna had to say in this interview? Do you get the feeling that Apple is doomed for the time being? Do you feel that this is related largely to rising competition by Samsung? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
