Apple Tablet Competition: Apple Attempting to Put the Clamps on Tablet Rivals

Apple Tablet Competition: As far as the tablet market is concerned, there is no denying the fact that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is the leader of the pack. With the widely popular iPad lineup, now including the Mini, the company has secured approximately 90% of tablet web traffic, according to a few recent studies (see It Was an iFriday to Remember).

Over the past couple of years, competition has steadily increased with tablets from Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) and Samsung hitting the market. With the holiday season in full swing, it will be interesting to see how the final sales numbers shake out come January 2013.

Originally reported by The Point Daily, research by the Chitika advertising network shows that the iPad is still out in front. Here’s the full report.

The data shows that the iPad is continuing its dominance with 88% of tablet web traffic. In second place is Amazon’s Kindle Fire with 3.6% of traffic followed by the Samsung Galaxy at 2.4%. Moving further down the list is the Google Nexus tablets with less than 1% of market share.

Thus far, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Surface tablet is way behind the competition and has a lot of ground to make up to even reach the “second wave” of the market.

At this point, it is difficult to deny the dominance exhibited by the iPad. When it comes to web browsing statistics, many believe that Android tablets will pick up some ground during the holiday season. Of course, the recent updates to the iPad and release of its new Mini will likely result in strong holiday sales for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).

By almost every metric imaginable, Apple’s family of iPad devices has a huge lead over the competition. Tablets from other companies – including Google, Amazon, and Samsung – have a lot to offer, but as of now they have yet to cut into Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s lead.
