9 Best Places to Visit in Iran Before You Die

There are quite a lot of places to visit in Iran before you die, but here are nine to kick start your visit. What can one expect while visiting Iran? Well, a lot of historical sights is for one. This country is sprinkled with structures like fortresses before the rise of Islam, archaeological wonders – some of the best in the world,  and architectural beauties that will blow your mind with its incredible detail and effervescent color and design.

Iran is a place that may question. Is this place actually safe? It’s a place that can definitely be visited, but the normal precaution you would take might need to be upped just a bit. It’s important to look up any current situations that may have unfolded before your trip, and do your research. 9. Persepolis

Persepolis is a world recognized archaeological site and former ceremonial capital to the ancient Persians. The site has huge stone structures dotted throughout including grand columns, mythical beasts and stone doors. The structure was actually destroyed by Alexander the Great in 300BC.

8. Castle of the Assassins

This spot is beautifully located in the mountains with the village of Gazor Khan peppered below. Breathtaking views, few visitors, and  a dash of history await you hear.

7. Tabriz

Located in a beautiful valley is a historical city named Tabriz. Museums, mosques, a beautiful lake, and other notable monuments are located here. For a real treat, visit the bazaar for a chaotic assault on the senses with aromas from foreign spices, people running around, and of course, plenty of shopping to be done.

6. Isfahan

Isn’t not every day that you get to go somewhere to look at the bridges, but here you go. Some of the most spectacular bridges on the planet are right here. The Zayandeh River is adorned with numerous bridges leading to different towns. The oldest bridge is Shahrestan.

While you’re here, checking out the beautiful Imam Square should be on your list. It’s regarded as one of the most stunning Islamic monuments, but really, the entire area is decorated with Islamic architectural wonders. Some even served as inspiration for other monuments around the world. There are numerous gorgeous mosques all featuring their own special design and flair.

5.Takht-e-Soleyman

Solomon’s Throne, or Takht-e-Soleiman, is one of the country’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and is a beautiful one at that. This religious site was used for sacred fires, and pilgrimages from the Sassanian kings many years ago. The impressive site consists of 38 towers around a crater, all while being surrounded by the beautiful mountains.

4. Soltaniyeh Dome

Behold, one of the largest domes in the world. That’s the first thing you will see when you look up at this museum. Dedicated to Il-khan Oljeitu in the 1300s, it’s still looking pretty good. Despite the timeworn facade of the tiles, the inside is preserved very nicely. The vibrant tiles and intriguing designs that embellish the walls are striking.

3. Bisitun

Do you like stories? What about stories dating back to 500? The story of Darius’ reign and power is told by very intricate inscriptions in rock faces. It’s quite a magnificent piece of archaeology.

2. Rudkhan Castle

Not frequented by many tourists, but that could change, is this medieval fortress from before the rise of Islam came about. Hike up the surrounding mountains and be captivated by the timeworn charm and the foliage that is slowly taking this old structure back to nature.

The old city of Yazd makes for a unique visit. This is the perfect spot to see that iconic mud-brick construction in the buildings, some of the best in the country. There’s an array of magnificent Islamic structures studding the city such as the Wind Towers or numerous badgirs along the skyline.
